Yes, I understand. I think $130M isn't enough reward to forego risk and the opportunity for more through conventional arbitration and FA. He says no, IMO.

I think it's a clever and good offer. Just think it's gonna take a really large amount (substantially larger than this) to get him to do anything other than year-to-year at this point.

If we give him the 5M signing bonus in 76 years (at 4.022%) we can tell everyone the guarantee is 230M

I was a little worried about Adley after last year. 2Bs were way down, HR power wasn't great. Very poor exit velo, hard hit %, barrel %. Great to see all that is drastically higher so far this year.

We need to talk about Adley's arm.

2022 - 31 percent of base stealers throw out.

2023 - 22 percent

2024 - 21 percent

The new rules hurt all catchers. Mack has done the research on Rutsch compared to the rest of the league. Teams aren't scared to run on Adley. Hes not a C who is gonna cover for any pitchers that are slow to the plate. But hes also not a total liability. Certainly not to the point that he still doesnt give you a massive leg up on the majority of teams at the C position.

He's 25th in pop up time this year.  He's got a strong enough arm.  He struggles with accuracy.

Hitting... he's got huge L/R splits....

Also, just like last year... he's hitting significantly better as a DH vs when he's Catching.... but SSS for both last year and this year, so... take that with a grain of salt.

He's 28th overall in MLB in fWAR currently (Henderson 2.3, Westburg 1.8) at 1.5.

He's an excellent player.
With the new ownership, I am expecting an extension.

It's hard to say without controlling for the pitcher, which is more work than I want to do.

League average is 21.6%.

Being under 1% below average is not really "we need to talk about" levels IMO.

Savant has his arm (84.9 vs 85.3) and pop time (1.91 vs. 1.96) as slightly worse than last year. He is near the bottom in caught stealing runs. But it's not really a lot of attempts at 1/4 of a year, if we did this a couple days ago he'd probably be above average in CS%. If we did it 2 weeks ago he'd be at like 28%.

Baseball has way to many metrics.  I think there are about 28 other teams who would love to have Adley.  The new rules have made it harder on catchers and pitchers in regards to controlling the running game.  Enjoy watching the man play. He is IMO a top 20 player in today's game.

I also think we are going to wake up one morning and find out the Orioles have signed Adley to an 8 year deal.

Trending wrong direction. Chris were his 2022 and 2023 splits as DH vs catcher this big of a difference?

I think those splits have a lot more to do with how huge the chasm is between how he's hitting from the right side vs the left side than if he's catching or not given that he typically gets a break from behind the plate against left handed pitches.

So he has better spills historically between DH and C. Interesting though 08s point.

Agree.  And I also think that the big swing between his LHB / RHB numbers is kind of flukey.  Some years he'll be better the other way and it won't usually be this big of a gap even if he's still got a clear stronger side.
