Who's the southwest cross-checker?

Holliday from Oklahoma

McLean plays at Oklahoma State

Ardoin plays at Texas

Hodo plays at Texas

Whoever covers the SEC also having a busy draft with Fabian and Bright.

Another SEC kid with the 7th rounder.

And actually if you consider that Texas is moving to the SEC, you could consider the Texas kids in both the OK/TX group and in the SEC group.

A guy I mentioned in a run through the top250.

Another guy I commented on was Paxton Kling (mlb.com #104) it appears he's no long part of the draft.  Huh?

The three pitchers they've taken so far are listed as 6'3", 6'4" and 6'4"

Take a look at the postseason college baseball tournament and you will see similar SEC representation.

Looks like they have a very specific type when taking pitchers. Size and power. I guess they assume they can teach mechanics and how to pitch.

MLB teams seem to not care at all about MLB.com's rankings.

3rd round saw 2 guys drafted who were unranked in the MLB.com top-250

4th round it was 9 NR

5th round 15 NR

6th round 19 NR

7th round 24 NR

8th round 27 NR

Through Round 8 is the top 256 picks, so just about equivalent to the top-250 prospects.  There is definitely some guys drafted because they will sign for $5-15k and allows teams to pool their bonus allotments for other guys, so the draft order isn't directly equivalent to team's perceptions of the player's talents. But once you're past the top 100 or so there definitely seems to be very little correlation to the rankings and the selections.  I like thinking of prospects as tiers.  Perhaps by the time you're past the top-100 (first 3 rounds) or so players the tier is so wide that you can't really identify the "true" order between multiple hundreds of guys.

Can't speak for all teams, but I think most teams are trying to save money through these rounds.  The Orioles are nested in that this year too.

Expect to see it sprinkled around like last year, probably a few HS and/or CC picks between 11-20 tomorrow a la Trendon Craig.

Initial rankings for me have us adding five top 30 prospects and nine top 100 prospects.

#3 - Jackson Holliday

#10 - Dylan Beavers

#21 - Jud Fabian

#25 - Max Wagner

#30 - Nolan McLean

#56 - Silas Ardoin

#68 - Douglas Hodo III

#83 - Trace Bright

#91 - Adam Crampton

Would rank the three remaining pitchers:

Wyatt Cheney

Preston Johnson

Cameron Weston
