He probably won't even get 5%. That's still a requirement right? He also has the PED issue.
Not that it matters, but Sheffield was the scarier of the two... I bet he had more pitchers worried about a line drive hitting them right in the face...
Sheffield is either going to be this generation's Jim Rice or Dick Allen in regards to the voting. Either the memory of his attitude will fade over time and the memory of his "fearedness" will get stronger, or the writers and later committees will simply hold a grudge and tell him to pound sand every time his name comes up.

Very true. I think he hangs around, but with the crowded ballot that will be tough. Hopefully a bunch get in this year and make it a little easier. Next year is Griffey, Hoffmann and Edmonds (and David Eckstein and Gary Matthews Jr!).

I've talked myself into Sheffield for the HOF. He's not one of the best 10 candidates, but I think he is worthy. Basically, if one thinks Edgar is worthy, I believe they should also think Sheff is worthy.

Sweetspot: Schilling, Mussina better than Smoltz

Mussina was too quiet, business-like and bland for his own good, fame-wise.... if he had a big mouth, he'd be much more of a shoo-in, regardless of whether people liked or hated what he said...

I'm sure that was by design.

I don't think it was by design... I think it is just Mussina's nature to be the complete opposite of a loud mouth, that's all... he just wants to read a book and not get involved in making a fuss about anything...

Let me just say that this whole "player X shouldn't get in because of his demeanor" is complete nonsense.
Who ever said that?

I've read lots of stories about guys being kept out or having their entry delayed because they were surly with the media or generally not liked. Rice being the most note worthy that I can think of off the top of my head.

Oh.
Well, I agree it's ridiculous... if that's why it is. I'm just not sure that's why it is....

Less than 24 hours: any predictions?
"Anger and angst" doesn't count as a prediction, either.
