And Yu Darvish is in the "Second Best" tier? Chen has better numbers.

They don't even mention Chen in the little paragraph about his tier.

Let's hope Chen quietly noticed both of those things ;-)

RotoGraphs: American League SP Tiers August Update
http://www.fangraphs...-august-update/

Chen is listed in the '6th tier', deemed 'Livin' on the Edge.'

Chen goes into his start tonight:

10-6, 3.42 era, 4.05 FIP, 4.32 xFIP, 135.1 ip, 118 hits, 16 hr's, 44 bb's, 109 k's, .673 OPS against, 0.65 G/F, LD % 20.2%, F-Strike % 57.8%, SwStr% 9.2%.

Since the All-Star break, he is 3-1, with 1.95 era, hitters are batting .174 against him. He has allowed 1 hr in 32.1 innings, with 11 bb's, and 31 k's.

He is not getting enough respect.

I'm going to take responsibility for Chen's 1st inning tonight.

Anyone watching on TV, what happened to Chen tonight? Not good stuff, no command, leaving pitches up in the zone?

Just seemed to fall behind alot of hitters, at least in the first, and then grooving fastballs to make up for it. Probably just a case of an off night where he didn't have his usual feel for his pitches.

Nice article.

I got a chuckle out of this part:

Chen even joined the O’s clubhouse fantasy football league, something that has become a yearly tradition for the group. He was a part of the meeting Saturday to determine the selection order, and when it comes time for the team-wide draft party, Chen is expected to be there.

If Jones participates then you might be able to get him to update the standings via Twitter.

With runners on 1st and 3rd and 1 out in the 6th tonight, Chen did some excellent pitching against Avilies, and Valencia.

The extra rest is good for him.

I wonder if a 6 man rotation would be a good idea down the stretch..or at least for the next few weeks?

Actually an interesting idea. Gives starters more rest and potentially could have them going deeper into games which could give the bullpen a rest. It's a good idea but I don't know if Buck wants to throw off their pitching schedule so late in the season. I may just be over-analyzing that though.

It will be interesting to see how they handle the Toronto DH and any potential other DH's down the line.

6.2 ip, allowing 3 er, 1 hr, 2 bb's, with 4 k's.

Back on the mound vs. NY tonight.

That's 3 HRs allowed by Chen tonight, 9 in his last six starts.

Lately reminds me of Guthrie in that regard...
