So dumb.
It just doesn't sound like he knows what the job of a baseball manager is beyond leaning on the railing with a cigarette.
We know that isn't true, so the truly dumb part is that he felt the need to say anything at all.

Another former catcher with no managing or coaching experience.
The new trend.
Like point guards in basketball, they are better equipped than some other guys.

Yeah - Girardi for the Marlins?
Happy for Ausmus though. I have no doubts he'll do well.

He had been the bench coach for the Yankees for a year, that was 2006 so sure he fits the "no managing experience criteria" at the time he was hired but that 7 years ago. What makes Matheny and Ausmus so unique is how they had no on-field coaching experience really at any level, excluding managing Team Israel in the WBC in the latters case.

Ventura also didn't have experience...but not a C obviously.
That's 3 new managerial hires with no coaching/managing experience.

Walt Weiss as well, but also not a catcher. The Dbacks had AJ Hinch before they hired Kirk Gibson.
