DFA for Valverde.

They finally realized that this was where they needed to make that left turn.

You would be correct. Although, that is the greatest contribution to human culture by anyone anywhere ever.

Jeremy Strain did go on record as saying he would struggle again when the league figured out his new breaking pitch. Looks like that's started to happen, though it's just two starts now, so we'll see.

Jeremy's a monster!!
Really enjoy "knowing" him. Sort of.
Draft night was just one big Baseball 101 session hanging out in that draft thread. Good stuff!

Do you expect Detroit to win the American League?
I expect them to win the Central, I don't expect them to win the pennant, could they, sure.
Posted 22 July 2013 - 12:41 PM
Not that there are any easy games in the playoffs, but if Verlander gets back to old form and Scherzer stays the way he is. I wouldn't want to face them in the Division Series and have to face either of them potentially twice. In the ALCS, it wouldn't be as daunting of a task IMO, although still tough.

I don't expect any team to win the American League right now. All the contending teams are flawed in enough ways and good in enough ways that they all have an equal chance of winning the pennant (and that's beyond the normal, "Everyone has a chance in the playoffs," rule).
Detroit has a star-heavy lineup, a very nice rotation and an iffy bullpen. They can rely on Cabrera and Fielder to produce runs in a series, and ride the starters to keep the 'pen to a minimum, but if anyone hits a rough patch it can fall apart rather easily.

ESPN: Jim Leyland rants on run support

Some people could find a flaw in Bo Derek. ... I also like guys that win. I'd rather have a pitcher nobody is talking about who has won 15 games than somebody everyone is raving about who has won five. I'm a baseball manager, not a statistician. ”
