I love your spirit. You're a great fan. I just hope you're not letting this effect you. I'll be cheering and sending the good ass vibes, but I have a really bad feeling about all this and am equally prepared to be disappointed. I already am pretty damn disappointed, if I'm being honest.

God, I hate sounding like Harbaugh or Boone, but its all right in front of them. The last however long has been miserable but they still are positioned to reach their ultimate goal. I get how frustrating it all is and Im frustrated too but the giving in crap has to stop. After 5 months of doing what you have to do to position yourself can you imagine if any player came out  and said," I dont care anymore. Its just not our year". F all that. I dont know what is going to happen but everybody in Birdland from the fans to the players need to get their heads out of their asses and stop feeling sorry for themselves

I'm prioritizing my mental and physical health TBH. There aren't many on this planet that want it more than me, trust that. But I hear you, you're not wrong. I'm not proud of it even. Just being a friend.

Not that we have any control over what happens on the field as fans but if I  could clone myself 40,000 times Id be in the ballpark everyday this weekend Id be up and on my feet every inning. Its not about what happens. Its about the support and belief that these guys surely would appreciate right now. I know you'd do that too. If it all goes bad it will all go bad. Its not going to be the end of the world, but 5 and a half months into all this with everything in front of them is not the time to bail.

This goes both ways. How about the players, you know the ones making butt loads of money to play a game, show the fans some enthusiasm to feed off of?

Again, imagine them quitting right now. They arent playing well but Im confident they havent quit. Fans shouldnt be piling on right now. Whats gonna happen is going to happen, but there isnt a single damn soul out there who knows what that is. Its all in front of us.

How are you confident of that? They have looked lifeless for months now. I'm not at all convinced they haven't quit.

This. They were treading water for most of July/August staying around. 500 before falling off a cliff in September.

They are 3 and 9 in their last 12. I'd call that a collapse. Maybe they rise up out of the ashes today. I'll be watching.

On September 3rd they scored 9 runs. Since then the best they have done is 5. And that was just once. Not sure what some would call a collapse if this isn't it?

Quit is a strong word. I should revise. I don't doubt their effort, I do doubt their focus, at least in the right areas. I doubt their confidence. I doubt their attention to details and fundamentals (see the defense and baserunning, etc.).

Im glad you revised because I think you nailed it. All those things you question is spot on and its the attention to those things that can get them back on track. Great post.

We will win at least 3 of these last 4 and have a playoff spot wrapped up by Sun. Book it. I dont want to hear any more of the other BS. If you spout the not our year nonsense and are calling it over then you arent allowed back during the playoffs.

Last I checked, you don't run this board

And for all the recent Rutschman hate, take a look at Julio Rodriguez' season this year.  Wonder how many Mariners fans are calling to trade him.  O's should kick the tires!

I'll never understand the Rutschman hate. Yes, he's struggled in the second half but by just about every offensive stat - avg, rbi, hr, ops, hits - he's one of the best catchers in baseball this year.

"Struggled in the second half" seems like an understatement.  He's been absolutely abysmal since the beginning of July, so its very easy to understand the dismay.  I think projecting these struggles onto the entirety of his future goes too far, but thinking he's useless for the rest of this season isn't unreasonable.  He's been worse than McCann for months now.

This has been more of a prolonged collective offensive slump.  To me that reeks of mob mentality and stressing / pressing.  Time will tell.  If 2 or 3 guys could "get hot" and maintain it for 3 or 4 games, then maybe that takes some pressure off the rest.  You can sort of see it on their faces right now, like every guy that steps in the box looks somewhere between "super serious" to "experiencing slight pain".  That's before the first pitch has been thrown...

I appreciate the idea that they hardest thing to do in sports is to stop losing.  Extends to individual players and their own production.  You get a whole lineup of guys "down" and it snowballs.  Hopefully Westburg, Mountcastle, even Urias come back and do something right away, change that mindset.  Jimenez, Slater, Rivera, Soto, etc can go take a seat in the stands for all I care... their best chance at flipping a switch is a resurgence started by the guys who have been here and been together for a while.

I've definitely been in high pressure situations (not sports related) where it seems like the harder you try, the more things go wrong. It's very hard to break out of and it is also very very hard not to let it get to your mentality.

Westburg and Urias are both in Norfolk's lineup today.

Being a rah rah fan is one thing and what's happening on the field is entirely different. The sample size is too big to think that there's some switch that's going to flip and turn things around. The bottom line is that this just isn't a good team right now. I don't care if it's 100% psychological or not it is what it is and it doesn't help when you're trotting 2 or 3 journey men out there every night.

I've said for awhile that the only hope is that the injured guys come back and help turn things around. I've seen enough of the status quo to know it ain't working. Westburg, Urias and hopefully Mountcastle get inserted into the starting lineup on day one and don't look back. It's our only hope.

Not sure why they are in Norfolk? We are so bad right now just get them up here. If they are healthy enough to play at Norfolk they are healthy enough to play in Baltimore. They don't need rehab at bats. They can't be worse than what we are trotting out there every day.

I think Urias will be back pretty quick. Certainly in time for the Yankees series. Westberg maybe a little longer

But again why? What is the point in having Westburg in AAA? Put him in the lineup tomorrow.
