I remember you were complaining about a one-hop throw to 2B which I thought was a perfectly fine throw.  Don't recall saying anything in particular in defense of his recent hitting, other than August wasn't as abysmal as July.  Since then he's doubled down on the bad hitting with a few more weeks of really bad in September (not as bad as July, but worse than August) so instead of trending upward now its like 40% more of a bad stretch than at that time.  Things have gotten worse not better since then, but I still don't think he's one of the worst players in the league especially once you move past the horrendous July.

I believe my comments about his 1-hop throws were to question whether he was doing it on purpose.  He's done it with such frequency  that I wondered if it was intentional, similar to a 3B bouncing a long throw to first.

And yes, I said he'd been one of the worst players in the league.  I'm not sure why you characterized that as some whacked out opinion when you say he's been "absolutely abysmal".  I guess those are 2 different things to you.

Worst player in the league is a pretty high bar so I assume Mackus just disliked the hyperbole. He may be somewhat competitive with that for the second half, but man the White Sox stats page is rough looking. Brandon Drury is still getting playing time with an OPS in the 400s. Someone like Jose Abreu would be worse but got cut. Then I'm not sure where the part time Slaters of the world fit. "Worst player compared to expectations" is a title he'd be in the running for, if we're limiting it to 2nd half.

Det has been playing such great ball of late so the playoffs virtually start today. They are playing for everything. Then you go to NY who still could be fighting us for the division and likely will be fighting Cle for the top seed even if we arent really a threat. Finally, Minn who will still likely be in the mix those last 3 games. So lets see what this team has and how they compete. The intensity ramps up starting tonight

"One of the worst players in the league" vs. "absolutely abysmal".  Those were the exact phrasings used.  One of those is some wacky opinion compared to the other?  I think not.  And I say that also as someone who hates hyperbole.  That's how bad Adley was for a while.

I do fully agree that this does not mean this is who he is moving forward.  I have a lot of faith in him to turn it around, but sudden drop-offs certainly aren't unheard of in baseball.

Three straight years with a choke job to end the season.  2021 they were the underdog but melted under the pressure in September.  They were great all regular season last year, then choked in October.  This year it unraveled in September and the stack of injuries have nothing to do with the offensive blundering right now.

Barring that much hoped for light switch flipping and the team suddenly playing well and advancing in the postseason, I can't imagine Hyde surviving this.  When the culture is broken the first thing to do is change leadership.

This collapse has reminded me of many of those crap teams from the early  2000's where they would do okay for 4 months or so then just completely pack it in.

I think this is more a tale of 2 seasons within one than a late season collapse. They were meh for a long time before this stretch. If they finish horribly in this last 9 games, then collapse will become more apt imo.

Being a rah rah fan is one thing and what's happening on the field is entirely different. The sample size is too big to think that there's some switch that's going to flip and turn things around. The bottom line is that this just isn't a good team right now. I don't care if it's 100% psychological or not it is what it is and it doesn't help when you're trotting 2 or 3 journey men out there every night.

I've said for awhile that the only hope is that the injured guys come back and help turn things around. I've seen enough of the status quo to know it ain't working. Westburg, Urias and hopefully Mountcastle get inserted into the starting lineup on day one and don't look back. It's our only hope.

But this is also virtually the same group that charged out to 24 games over .500 by mid June. That sample size is virtually the same as the one that we're dealing with now. Particularly if you get Westburg, Urias and Mounty back for the playoffs, who's to say they couldn't make a deep run?

Bottom line for me is this, baseball is random and the playoffs are even more random. All you want is a chance to roll the dice in October and we're inching ever closer to securing that chance.

That's not all I want.  I want to weigh those dice in our favor a bit.

Good for you. Im really hoping you get to use them.

No sarcasm btw. Wanted to make that clear because some have wished they would miss the playoffs so they wouldnt have to spend money and time and go to the games.

Well...  I'm hoping I get to use most of them.  Just need the O's to sweep each series to save me some money!

Can’t be a WC and get three home games in the ALDS right? So should get some refund either way.

Yep, that's right.  There's a guaranteed 10% savings already!

I got game 1 wild card, game 2 ALDS, game 1 ALCS.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Busy for ALDS home game 1 or just wanted to add some variety?

My season ticket mates bought game 2 so I decided to do the same.

Mounty back. Eloy to Norfolk, who are done. He had to accept the assignment, and they could have just DFAd him so I suppose he still has a chance to make the postseason roster.
