ESPN still has him as an honorable mention in their updated prospect rankings, Scouting the Statline has him as the 9th best pitching prospect in baseball.

My favorite comp for him, Max Fried, had a 5.92 ERA in AA the year before making his ML debut.

If your "system " still has him as one of the top 10 pitching prospects in baseball and you just blindly go with it. If you are a slave to that system that much then you lose so much credibility. The performance has to matter. The basic numbers have to matter.

That’s not my system and I saw that ranking before his terrible performance. Think they use some version of FIP over ERA plus whatever else. Was just pointing out that plenty of people are still high on him. Like I said McDermott is probably passing him with his AAA success but he still has the stuff to be a 2-3 SP in the majors.

I know its not your system. I just think its laughable for someone to have him as a top 10 pitching prospect in all of baseball. I guess if youre strictly just putting out what your computer or system tells you with no added thought or commentary then thats fine. But Id give the readers a disclaimer.

Can see loving the arm...k's and hits per ip at Bowie were excellent and point to plus stuff.

But a 4.87 era over 18 AA starts certainly says something. Mainly that he isn't a finished product and wasn't ready to consistently overwhelm the Eastern League.

I have never seen him throw one pitch.

Cant pretend to have any strong feelings on who he is.

Have no idea if the Os were having him work on parts of his game and were less concerned by his results vs his development?

Having the requisite arm talent is a great starting point. Begin with the stuff.

If he can start to show some refinement and consistent results at AAA, I'll be more interested.

Trade him to Cleveland they’ll turn him into a stud

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

"Now OPS sucks.  Got it."

"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."

"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

Ouch that's a pretty poor ERA for this level but gotta love those K's.

Holy cow his agent said "he's a really great kid." Shocking I tell you just shocking.

Hopefully he has figured something out but an overall ERA over 5 isn't what you want to see. Haven't looked at his game logs but in reading the article seems like he's either really on or really off.

Nice 1st start for Povich.  6IP, 0BB, 5K, 1H, 0R.  Now let's see him back it up with his next start.

We could use him sooner than later.

He needs to put together a run of good starts.  I think he has a shot but if you look at his game logs he almost never has 2 good games in a row.  If he puts up 4-5 good starts in a row I'll start to call for him to be called up.  I'm sure for the Orioles it will be much longer.

My hope is that McDermott shows consistent command because I just don’t see Povich’s stuff getting it done in the big leagues. I think he’s a back end, slightly better version of Cole Irvin type.

Well that’s a relief. These days every time I see a pitcher’s name at the top of the list I’m expecting to read about elbow issues.

Meh

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Couldn't locate his breaking stuff. Fastball looks average. Not much hard contact, at least.

From what I saw, control be-damned, he appears to be adept at frustrating hitters’ eye levels.

Quality depth at a minimum. I'd prefer if we only needed him for bullpen help and not rotation. The command issues should be less painful out of the pen.
