100%. One #5 starter is plenty.

I also think Povich might just be the Akin replacement. Him as the long-man and able to step in to start on a pinch would be a good role.

My only issue with that is your aforementioned tendency he has to struggle to bear down and get out of jams.

At this point Povich would be lucky to have Akin's career.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Maybe, but Akin was way worse as a starter, 6.25 ERA his first two years starting before he was moved to RP full time.

I hope the police are able to investigate this.

Not that this wasn't occuring before, but gotta think gambling has opened the flood gates for deranged online behavior at least tenfold. Larger audience caring about the outcome and even less attachment to the players as people. Heinous. Agree that I hope this can be protected as assault.

Def a correlation between this crap and sports betting. Whether this Povich incident is related to it or not.  Its easy to sit behind a keyboard in anonymity and say stuff. Complete dengenerates

I  look back and cringe seeing my posts calling a player a bum or a goof. TO take it to this level is just insane.

It's one thing to say something in a game thread about a player being a bum or a goof or whatever to blow off some steam.

Finding someone's significant other on IG or wherever and sending threatening messages? That's insane. The game isn't that serious.

I’m mostly pro gambling, but I wonder if outlawing prop bets would help get rid of this BS. I do believe it would at least lower the likelihood of individual players affecting the integrity of a game.

I'm not a gambler and have never bet on a game / performance, but I feel this stuff way predates gambling. It just wasn't as easy to find avenues to do it in the past aside from maybe yelling it at a game or some public place you'd see a player.

Now we can all look at their social media and pretty much figure out who their spouse/gf/family members are.

It would happen but not at the same rate. IMO a lot of these cases are degenerate gamblers.

I think both. It’s never been easier to find players or their family to interact with them, and a lot of morons lose money and want to blame somebody else.

Can't put the genie back in the bottle on social media, and it's gotten too easy to track people down.

IMO

Its not gambling. Its not baseball (or sports in general).

There has always been nut jobs out there (and yes I do think there are more these days). But this is all about social media. Far too easy to get online and mess with people.

Agreed, and in most cases it is gutless people who think it is okay to say or do anything they want while hiding behind a keyboard.

Unbelievable that someone would threaten to rape someone online. I hope Povich or his wife files a complaint and the police pay this coward a visit. No excuse for this kind of garbage.
