Needs to get innings in Baltimore this year. Have to find out if he is closer to Akin or Baumann.
On any other franchise he’d be closer to unemployment.

Nah.

Nah.
He's 26 with 17 starts under him and a 6.84 ERA. 5.90 FIP. And statcast has opposing hitters barreling up his fastball more than most other fastballs in the league.
He's on his last chance to figure it out.

Everyone is older and has less experience because of 20.
He MiL numbers overall are good.
He was promising in his brief 20 ML audition.
21 was a complete disaster at the ML and MiL level. Probably confidence at some point.
There is ability there. Probably not as a starter (though possible).
He could totally flame out, or he could show improved fb command and be a viable back end starter or usable reliever.

Is Akin the gold standard now and Baumann done?
Baumann has had a rough 17 inning start to his MLB career. Akin had a rough 120 inning start to his MLB career. Yeah, Akin has had a good 20 innings this year. Baumann seems like he had better results at every minor league level at similar ages. He probably needs to get his walks under control, no one can walk 7+/9 like he did this year, Akin on the other hand has been good at that this year (but again, Baumann had a better walk rate in the minors).
I know you said every time he pitched that Baumann is terrible, but I don't see a reason to give up on him quite yet.

Yeah Im jumping the gun longterm on both guys but it fits for now. That said, yeah, I dont see it with Baumann. Akin is still tbd.
Seems like they want to see Baumann in relief. He missed a lot of bats at the MiL levels coming up. Maybe he gets going and becomes another viable arm.

Baumann’s Stuff+ numbers were very good. He throws gas and his slider is legit, he just had no command of it (and knew it hence the 70% fastball usage compared to 12% for the slider). If he figures that out in AAA I still think he can be a valuable multi-inning reliever, fireman type.
I have no reason to believe ML hitters aren't seeing his stuff well despite what the raw data might saw. The bat tells you everything.

Starting at Bowie tomorrow.
I still think he can be useful. Use him to throw 3 or 4 innings twice a week out of the pen.

Yeah based on the early returns from Akin and Lopez, I feel like it wouldn't be that far fetched to expect Kremer can be a useful bullpen arm too
