Wow..that’s huge for the Angels.

They just bought Matain too.

Doing what they can to try and keep Trout.

It's really smart of them to try to add talent to Trout cheaply when they can. Would be smart of anyone, but that's a different conversation.

They still gotta figure out how to improve that pitching though...

They need guys to stay healthy..Otani, Richards, Heaney could be a good start...but those guys need to stay healthy and be what they can be.

The best player in the world, and Trout on the same team.  ;)

Wow, this is such a big more for the Angels.

If they are finishing this off...I saw Dee Gordon as a nice fit at 2B, but he'll be in CF for the Mariners.

How about back to Detroit for Kinsler (2B) and Castelanous (3B)...

----------------

This has to be so frustrating for Dipoto.  You listen to him talk and he felt he was all in.

One of the things really working against him was Ohtani's agents are based in LA and while Seattle is the second largest % Japanese in the US, LA is first. (those stats were from several years ago).

Personally, I think Dipoto left some of his bullets on the table.  If he had signed Darvish and Ichiro....would Ohtani really want to play against those guys....and the only AL teams were SEA/LAA/TEX so you have the Division there either way.

---------------

Earlier discussion was Darvish really wanted to stay in LA also and was waiting on the Dodgers, but Ohtani signing certainly could open up the Angels for him too.

Angels are looking good for 2018.  Still have to get it done.

The O's go out of their way to make it difficult to support them.

“Philosophically we don’t use all avenues available to acquire as much talent as we possibly can”

You know, because they do such a good job of obtaining talent in the other ways.

That quote needs to be on a poster at the Fanfest Q&A session.  And we should all throw eggs at him.  Stinky ones, preferably, but fresh ones will be fine if you didn't think ahead a couple weeks and set some eggs aside for the purpose.

I think those eggs would be thrown at the wrong target.

Right, the anger on this issue needs to be directed to Angelos.

Duquette has a responsibility to change Angelos' mind.  Certainly Angelos is massively to blame, but Duquette not being able to make any in-roads and convince him that his ridiculous policies are ludicrously stupid is also a failing worthy of scorn.

Plenty of blame to go around.  Our ire doesn't need to be limited to Angelos.

If MacPhail couldn't do it either, is it truly DD's fault?

That's not practical.

Duquette has a responsibility to provide his case, and present his opinion.

Saying it's his responsibility to make Angelos change his position is too much...   the only person responsible for Angelos' decision making is Angelos.

There are things to fully put at the feet of Duquette....  just don't think this is an example of one of them.

Both.  Anyone who can't convince him differently is failing Orioles fans everywhere.

I'm not saying it's an easy task.  It may be an impossible one.  But it is every GM's task to convince their ownership of the right path forward.

This is something Duq should be able to sell him on...but I also won't crucify DD for not being able to do it.

PA is just a very clueless person when it comes to baseball.

And at least not provide stupid, idiotic quotes like that, which portray it is his belief. While ultimately PGA gets the blame, I'm perfectly fine with Duq receiving his fair share too. He isn't helping himself. That's on him.
