Did you see the Top 5 Reasons You Can't Blame... Steve Bartman?

I probably did, but don't recall...

There was an error on the next play, and then like 7 straight hits or whatever...total nightmare. People also don't realize that it was only Game 6, Florida had Pavano beat Kerry Wood in Game 7.

Pretty much highlights how they had many chances even despite Bartman to win and didn't. But blaming Bartman is a good narrative.

ESPN: Who replaces Dusty Baker? (Insider)

http://insider.espn....rs/post?id=8338

The article mentions Barry Larkin, kind of their "Cal Ripken" candidate, he has little managing/coaching experience, did some FO work with the Nats, and has been with MLB N/ESPN.

One of the names mentioned is Jim Riggleman, I can't see them hiring him after getting rid of Dusty. I'd think he'd be a good bench coach if they hire a younger manager with little experience like Larkin.

Brad Ausmus and Tony LaRussa are the other two. Never say never, but I doubt LaRussa is coming back.

ESPN: It was time for Dusty Baker to go

http://espn.go.com/b...sty-baker-to-go

Baker's flaw in the postseason is managing like it's still the regular season; you can't do that. There is a sense of urgency needed in the playoffs. There's no tomorrow or next start you can look forward to.

Has there ever been such a successful manager (record wise at least) so universally unloved?

Successful is in the eye of the beholder.

He's made the playoffs only seven times in 20 years despite averaging 85 wins a year. He's won three total playoff series. He's shown a level of strategic and tactical conservatism that even among baseball managers is ridiculous, chewing up young arms and willfully ignoring even basic ideas like platoon splits and getting players on-base.

There's a reason he ends up a punching bag as much as anyone.

Oh yeah, I get it, see my above Cubs posts...but still 7 playoff appearances would be considered successful by most managers if you asked them I' d assume.

Sounds like he's a pretty darn good pitching coach.

ESPN: Homer Bailey agrees to $105M deal

http://espn.go.com/m...x-year-contract

Homer Bailey has agreed to a six-year, $105 million contract with the Cincinnati Reds that includes a mutual option for a seventh year, ESPN and multiple other outlets are reporting.

The deal includes a $25 million mutual option for 2020 with a $5 million buyout and would help the Cincinnati Reds with their cash flow by deferring some of the salary for short periods.

Bailey would get salaries of $9 million this year, $10 million in 2015, $18 million in 2016, $19 million in 2017, $21 million in 2018 and $23 million in 2019. In an unusual twist, much of the annual salary would be deferred until the November after each season.

Bailey would be paid in-season amounts of $3 million this year, $4 million next year, $11 million in 2016, $12 million in 2017, $14 million in 2018 and $15 million in 2019.

ESPN: Alfredo Simon gets shot to start

http://espn.go.com/m...-mat-latos-hurt

Simon made 16 starts for Baltimore in 2011 and welcomes the chance to move into a starter's role, even if it's only temporary.

"I'm ready to go," Simon said. "I know it has been two years (since) I have started a game, but if I get the opportunity, I'm going to show Bryan Price that I can be a starter."

I was going to make a joke about how usually someone else has to get shot for him to start, but then I remembered this, so I don't think it would be all that appropriate...

Like the article stated, I doubt she would be able to survive for as long as she did in today's social media environment.
