The Reds are 3-19, and have been outscored by 65 runs.

They've allowed 132 runs, or 77 more than the Dodgers have allowed.

The Reds have been awful and it's a self-inflicted wound.  The Talent is mediocre and they've been groin-striking the rest of the pieces of the Performance Formula.

They actually had a really interesting team coming out of last year and needed to clean up a couple of things and add a couple of pieces and they've turned the whole thing into a shit-show.

It's too bad the Orioles weren't willing to get in on Suarez.

Suarez looks a lot like Chris Davis.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Or they could just build a new wall.

The Cincinnati Reds would have to throw EIGHTY CONSECUTIVE SCORELESS INNINGS to move out of last place in team ERA.

Reds threw a combined no-hitter today…

…and lost. Ouch.

Nick Martinez signs with the Reds.  $14M in 2024 plus a $12M player option for 2025.  He's been a RP/spot starter/opener the last couple years with good results.  Looks like the Reds are gonna make him a starter.

Reds sign Eugenio Suarez for 1/$15M. Pretty cheap price for a guy who hit 49 bombs last year. I wonder how much of the market cooling on him is lessons learned from Santander.

Side note, there were a ton of Suarezes available this off-season!

Suarez is considerably older than Santander as well; he'll turn 35 this July. Not difficult to see why a market never really developed for an aging player who hits homeruns and not much else.

Didn't realize that Suarez became the 19th player to hit four homers in one game last season. Missed that one entirely.

This tangentially relates to the O's in that with that signing of Saurez, it's that much harder to believe the Reds would trade Abbott or Singer now.

What's interesting to me is that Suarez isn't really a good fit on their roster.  I would have said Mayo would have a similar challenge on their roster and not as clean a fit as a lead piece for someone like Lodolo....but here's the Reds committing to Suarez for a year.

They get to tell their fanbase they've signed someone that hit nearly 50 homers last year, and obtained him with minimal cost and risk.

That probably means more than fit.   Plus they do have room at DH, and their stadium is homer friendly.
