Depends on how involved they want Baltimore. I could see them using Nats Park for other events (archery, etc.)

I'd imagine that they'd want baseball in DC with OPACY being the secondary venue. I doubt they'll do archerey there, maybe another sport.

I would think to some degree they would want to spread things out a bit, so there aren't too many events converged in DC (and it's not like they're going to completely shut down the federal govt for 2.5 weeks, so you still have somewhat regular activity to deal with too). So maybe they would have more events in Baltimore.

Shot put and javelin on the mall. That would actually be kinda cool.

They'll be using part of their 10 weeks of vacations during that time period. But yeah I think they'll spread it out somewhat and I do think Baltimore will have a presence. Definitely soccer and I do think a new arena will be built if this happens.

They'll probably have basketball in multiple venues most likely, women compete here as well. There's plenty of arenas they could use besides Verizon/Comcast. But still would be nice to get that new arena in Baltimore.

Basketball (men's) and gymnastics (women's) draw the biggest audiences, both on TV and in-person. Those two will need the biggest arenas, and you probably need one for each. You could hold women's hoops and men's gymnastics in other smaller facilities, but I would think they could schedule them in the same building as the others holding the same sport, different gender.

Hey, if they want the IOC to leave completely unimpressed and likely to drop baseball again after 2024, they absolutely should hold it in Nats Park. If they want those guys to be impressed, though, gotta use the Yard.

I'm sure it won't take much arm-twisting to get people who work in the downtown area to use vacation during that time. And Congress will likely be in recess, so practically no activity there (not that there is any when they're in session either, but I digress). I'd guess there are still going to be enough essential federal employees needed, plus all the businesses that would definitely want to be open to take advantage of all the potential customers, that traffic in and out of there will be quite the experience.

They usually have basketball at two venues atleast looking at the recent Olympics. There's less of need to hold women's basketball in the same larger 20k seat arenas.

I'm sure the IOC has established guidelines of what capacity the facility for each event has to be. You've currently got the Big 2 in Verizon and Comcast. I know there's schools with smaller on-campus gyms in the area, pretty much all under 10,000. As for the in-between sized places, I can only think of Baltimore and Cole Field House if they decide to use that as well as Comcast. Maybe the Patriot Center too, I think that's a little larger.

They played most of the women's games in London in a 12k seat arena, think they could probably play at Patriot Center (~10k) if they wanted to.

A city development board I frequent doesn't sound to thrilled. And one thing they mentioned is that RFK would likely become a new stadium for the Olympics with the DC NFL team moving there before or after. IMO, they'd likely keep FedEx for the Olympics and then tear it down after.

So the need for Baltimore to host may be even smaller.

Traffic and commuting alone may keep things to immediate DC area.

Agreed.

I'd still like Baltimore to be included just enough so that the city gets a new arena out of it.

Agree with keeping FedEx until after the Olympics. I do think the DC NFL team wouldn't move into the new stadium until after the Olympics as it would be extensively renovated (removing the track).

They'll likely have soccer at M&T, I would think. They usually have that stuff in other cities like when DC got to have some soccer in 1996.

There's no reason to not do something in Baltimore. MARC connects them well, Amtrak too, and I am sure there'd be plenty of buses running as well.

Some people...maybe a lot of people...would probably stay in Baltimore since I am sure hotel costs in DC would be astronomical.

For the 2012 bid, they were talking about building a fast train between Baltimore and DC, with travel times of like 25 minutes.  That would be sweet.
