I think you mean two (http://kansascity.ro...013&level='ALL'). He was 16 for 20 in saves last year, that's not really that amazing. Drew Storen was 43 for 48 in 2011 and is now in the minors (http://washington.na...013&level='ALL'). Relievers even "proven closers" are extremely volatile.

He didn't start closing until August last year. The save percentage wasn't dominant but the rest of the stats were. That 12.2 k/9 was a thing of beauty last year and he's been even better this year. The stats match the stuff too, he is nasty.

It just doesn't seem like enough of a sampling size to say definitively, he'll be just as dominant. Maybe he'll beat the odds. My premise remains, closers are pretty replaceable parts compared to other parts of a team.

Gotta hand it to the Royals- dramatic win once again -- Justin Maxwell with a 12th inning homer. All it took was George Brett leaving his position as hitting coach (I kid).

I thought they started hitting when he became the coach?

At the end of it is when the streak began. Remember how we all underestimated KC?

ESPN: Royals keep winning, prove skeptics wrong

http://espn.go.com/b...-skeptics-wrong

Won 13-0 tonight, which brings their record to 12-1 since the last time they played us, sounds great but as the article notes Detroit/Cleveland have been hot as well, still good for their WC positioning, when they weren't exactly on the radar not that long ago. if the O's weren't in it, I'd probably be paying more attention to KC. They haven't made the playoffs in 30 years, the most in major sports I believe, so it be something just to make it for them.

That's like saying, "Take out the drugs and Baltimore is an awesome city." :P

I think that even if they do make the playoffs this year it was still a dumb deal.

Agreed.

I think Myers would be helping them a lot right now too. And earlier in the year for that matter.

Exactly. They are about average in batting average and on base percentage but what they are really lacking is power. 12th in the AL in slugging, 12th in the AL in OPS, and dead last with 80 HR. His power could have really helped them out. James Shields has been very good but Wade Davis has sucked for them.

RT @JeffPassan: Sources: MLB to suspend former AL MVP Miguel Tejada 105 games for amphetamines. Tested positive twice.
