1-1 Mark Appel.
Gonna be a pretty penny. Surprised they didn't go Gray honestly.

Heard Appel was plan B.

That's what I was hearing too, with Moran plan C.

Plan A?
I heard for a while it was Gray. Maybe he was looking for too much money?

Yeah, it supposedly depended on another player falling. Couldn't count on it, so Appel.

More than Appel would really be interesting.
Rumor last year was that Appel was offered $4m and some change last year, slot for #1 is like $7.2m I think, so he may be happy in that $6-7m range and maybe Gray was asking for the upper range of that? I dunno.
More surprised that Cubs went bat, I heard pitching, pitching, pitching out of them all spring.

Ah. Makes sense. I've heard they were going to try for Manaea at #40 with some of the money they would have saved...maybe that's what happened? I can't imagine them affording both (although it's possible).

The Cubs have position prospects, don't they?
Posted 06 June 2013 - 06:22 PM
1-2 Cubs take 3B Kris Bryant.
LOTS of power.

They've got Soler, and Almora, but I don't know after that.

Yeah...I kind of wonder if there is a bit of a metal swing in there. His bat is not in the zone for long. This draft is not the deepest.

1-3 Rockies get Jonathan Gray SP - Oklahoma.
End up going 1-2-3, just not in the order that I thought they would. Couldn't pass him up though, they gotta get SP somehow in COL, and he should move quickly.

I guess they already gave up on Josh Vitters?

Heard his praying was an 80.

Yep, I've heard that from people too, I know Nick wasn't his biggest fan. I'll be interested to see if he signs fast and how he does in short season. For me, I've seen Moran in person a couple times, and while I think he's good and all, I liked Schaeffer a lot more last year, I had them clumped pretty tightly together, Moran better hit tool and Bryant more pop.

I imagine Joe Jordan loves Gray.
Nah, he's not coming off an injury or playing for a community college

Yeah he kinda busted, and is TRYING to salvage something these days, but looks like AAAA at best.
