I don't remember hearing this when he signed the extension. Does anyone know specifically what this means? Is the team reimbursed by insurance? Does CC take a discocunt in a rehab year (is that what the "language" means?) Can they cut him? Other than the insurance option, the other two don't seem MLBPA friendly, obviously.

5 years/$122M (2012-16), plus 2017 vesting option

signed extension with NY Yankees 10/31/11
12-15:$23M annually, 16:$25M, 17:$25M vesting option ($5M buyout)
2017 salary guaranteed if Sabathia 1) does not end 2016 on the disabled list with a left shoulder injury, 2) does not spend more than 45 days in 2016 on the disabled list with a left shoulder injury or 3) does not make more than six relief appearances in 2016 because of a left shoulder injury
no-trade protection
perks: suite on road trips

It's pretty limited protection, really only keeps the Yankees from having to pay the final year if he ends up not being able to pitch due to the shoulder several years down the road.

King Felix' deal is now official. Apparently only "minor concessions" made due to the elbow concern, so likely not even approaching the type of language in Sabathia's contract.

This is 100% going to be my sleeper team to make the playoffs this season.

Vegas has made their OVER/UNDER 78.5, I'm all in on the OVER.

Love this team in 2013.

I drafted him in one of my keeper leagues because I figured this would happen this year. Hopefully he hits, despite striking out like Mark Reynolds in the Pacific Coast League.

No one ever accused the Mariners of running a smart organization. At least since the immediate honeymoon from Zduriencik's hiring.

Iwakuma sure has come back to Earth. I should have tried to trade him in fantasy after that great start.

ESPN: Dear Mr. Seager: I'll Still Cheer You On

http://espn.go.com/m...eattle-mariners

"My name is Lyle Raymond. Your bat landed on me. I am OK," read the letter, scrawled onto three-prong, hole-punched notebook paper. "Thanks for giving me the thumbs up when you were on first base. I like the Astros but will cheer you on too. I gave back your bat because you had a big hitting streak with that bat. I hope you have more hits with that bat. Your fan, Lyle.

While Seager's streak ended, his quest for .300 remains, as he's raised his average since that series from .289 to .296. He also has 17 home runs with 51 RBIs.

Seager's wife, Julie, posted a photo of the letter on Twitter:

Kyle just got the sweetest letter in the mail from the little boy who got hit by his bat in Houston. pic.twitter.com/iqzShRC8I8

I love stuff like this. This is what the game is all about.

Mariners owner Hiroshi Yamauchi died. He was the former president of Nintendo.

http://www.cnn.com/2...-nintendo-obit/

Although not a baseball fan, Yamauchi bought a majority stake in the Seattle Mariners in 1992 to help keep the team in the Pacific Northwest when it looked like it might be relocated to Florida. He famously never saw the Mariners play live.

I remember hearing that and when they were supposed to play in Japan which was cancelled it be the first game. When describing absentee ownership, his name should almost always appear.
