The team has signed right-handed reliever Bud Norris, who was released by the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday, to a contract for the rest of the season.
Interim manager Pat Murphy says he plans to use the 30-year-old Cal Poly San Luis Obispo alum in one-inning middle-relief stints to start.
Norris made his first appearance for the Padres on Tuesday, notching two strikeouts in a perfect inning of relief."

Josh Johnson to undergo third Tommy John surgery!
Padres righty Josh Johnson will go under the knife for his third Tommy John procedure, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports. He will likely have the surgery by next week, but obviously will be expected to miss the entirety of the 2016 season.
Johnson most recently had a UCL replacement in April of 2014. He had signed a one-year, $8MM deal with San Diego prior to that season, but never threw a major league pitch before succumbing to the surgery. The Friars brought him back on an incentive-laden, one-year, $1MM pact, but the 31-year-old was never quite able to make it back to MLB action.

Deadspin: Bad Baseball Player [Bud Norris] Has Bad Thoughts About Foreign Players
When the told the large majority of the benches-clearing incidents involved players of different backgrounds, Norris nodded knowingly.
“I think it’s a culture shock,’’ Norris said. “This is America’s game. This is America’s pastime, and over the last 10-15 years we’ve seen a very big world influence in this game, which we as a union and as players appreciate. We’re opening this game to everyone that can play. However, if you’re going to come into our country and make our American dollars, you need to respect a game that has been here for over a hundred years, and I think sometimes that can be misconstrued. There are some players that have antics, that have done things over the years that we don’t necessarily agree with.“I understand you want to say it’s a cultural thing or an upbringing thing. But by the time you get to the big leagues, you better have a pretty good understanding of what this league is and how long it’s been around.’’

LOL, the Padres. 25-0 in Home opening series. Maybe they'll score a run in Colorado.

San Diego Padres exec calls his team 'miserable failures'
Padres executive chairman Ron Fowler, in a radio interview with the Mighty 1090 AM on Wednesday, labeled the team "miserable failures" on the win-loss front, calling its performance "embarrassing."
"It's been embarrassing. I don't know how else to put it," Fowler said. "Our performance on the road trip, 1-7, was pathetic."
"To have a starter like (James) Shields perform as poorly as he did yesterday is an embarrassment to the team, an embarrassment to him," Fowler said.
"In a normal environment, if you had performed as well as we have over the last three years, you'd probably be unemployed. But it's baseball, with guaranteed contracts."

Didn't Stotle love this teams direction and all the moves they did? I am pretty sure it was him.

Well, Preller is known as a good draft/development guy. That aspect may not be terrible. Maybe similar to Cherrington in that respect. So in that sense, guys with relatable strengths that stotle would admire, while perhaps not acknowledging their overall ability as GM's imo. But yeah, some horrible ML deals/contracts taken there with pretty poor results.
