ESPNPadres could face discipline after hiding players' medical information from MLB database

San Diego Padres officials instructed their organization's athletic trainers to maintain two distinct files of medical information on their players -- one for industry consumption and the other for the team's internal use, multiple sources have told ESPN.

Trainers were told in meetings during spring training that the distinction was meant to better position the team for trades, according to two sources with direct knowledge of what was said.

Nuts.

He's a very good player, no question, but that seems like a bit much.

Hosmer gets $5M signing bonus then $20M per year for the first five of the deal before his opt-out kicks in. $13M a year in 2023-25.

Moustakas is going back to Milwaukee.

There was talk he would go to SD...leaves open the possibility of Manny still.

John Heyman:

Padres aren’t kidding around and are said to have made serious offers for both Machado and Harper. Their bid for Machado is believed to be for about $250M (and about 8 years) tho there is the Cali tax and possibly deferrals. Bid for Harper believed to be for more than that.

Yea, Manny likely cost himself money in the postseason.

If that number is on the table for Manny, he should jump.

Can the Padres, who have a great farm system afford both?

Per Jeff Passan, Manny Machado is signing with the Padres.

I also heard this morning it's going to be a deal with an out option after 3 years.

EDIT:

BREAKING: Manny Machado has agreed to terms on a deal with the Padres. According to a league source, it’s for 10 years and $300 million - the biggest free-agent contract in the history of American sports.
