He was the bright spot of the game last night.
Pressure at the highest and he performed perfectly.
The guys preceding UJ were all good.

Lefties are 2 for 12 off Givens so far here in '17.
'17: 3-0, 1.50 era, 12 ip, 9 hits, 2 er, 1 hr, 3 bb's, 11 k's

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

Go look at his career numbers. Even Buck has said the next step for him is getting out lefties. Good start but it's a SSS. How many of those outs were hit hard. How many Ks does he have against leftiesDidn't Nickle say he couldn't get lefties out or something?

Definitely a small sample size. Not much should be taken from it, other than it's a good start.
OTOH, last year was also a pretty SSS vs. lefties... same thing, could only take so much from it.
FTR, in the 12 ab's this year, he's allowed those 2 hits, has 1 bb, and has 3 k's. OPS against .536.
Vs. RHH, it's a .590 OPS in 33 ab's.

I love Givens as a player so damn much.
He just has these...random control farts though. Like...every appearance, one ball just flies 30 inches away from the strike zone. It's so weird. I can't think of another Oriole pitcher that does that, besides Ubaldo.
If we lose Britton next year, a Givens/Brach set-up/closer combo would be nothing to sneeze at.

Ideally he has a very strong first half as our closer next year and then can be dealt as a young, controllable late inning reliever for a pretty big haul.

Stuff was filthy today in NY. Great 8th inning striking out the side. Topped out at 98. Ton of movement. Could have been used in the 9th.

Balt Sun: Mychal Givens ‘ might be’ a different pitcher before ninth inning as dominant performances return

Givens is streaky, but also is clearly better in the 7th and 8th.
Armstrong seems okay in the 9th.

Huge thank you to the Orioles organization and the Angelos family for last 11 years. I’ve only known one uniform since you drafted me in 2009, and it’s hard to leave behind. Thank you for believing in me (and for making me a pitcher). To the O’s fans in Baltimore, Bowie, Frederick,Delmarva, Aberdeen, Sarasota, and everywhere else, thank you for supporting me and welcoming me when I played in your town. Keep the faith, O’s fans, it’s coming. And keep supporting your youth baseball, especially inner city. I’m excited for my future with the Rockies, but a part of my heart will always be orange.
Good Luck Mychal, always was a class act. I hope he does well everywhere he goes.

What a great message. Class act, wish him well.

Totally agree. Worked his tail off to go from a failed SS prospect to being a very serviceable relief pitcher. Likable guy. Great character. Hope he has success.
