Well, at least we know why they weren't big on moving him... they had him penciled in to replace Tommy...

This year. O'Day next year. Britton soon enough?

His K of Valencia was sweet... 95 running away... difficult to pick up at that angle.

Wanna get pumped up about Givens?
http://www.fangraphs...-secret-weapon/
So, maybe the O's knew something back when they first said they weren't trading him?
Imagine what he might be like when he's pitched for long enough to actually know what he's doing....
If ballplayers still had roommates like they did back when young Palmer was roommates with old Robin Roberts, I'd want this guy rooming with O'Day...

Britton, O'Day, and Givens.... the 7th inning on is going to be brutal for opposing teams and that's not even counting guys like Brach and Matusz who can come in and shut you down.

Hopefully Brach and others can make it from the 6th onward, for those nights when the SP's can't do more than 5...

Unfortunately, I'm afraid there will be many nights that our SP fail to go 5+ IP...

If they can do a decent job while averaging 6 IP, that's good enough... most rotations don't average that many... 18 outs is not as good as more than 18, but it's good enough... and averaging 18 outs means there will be some nights when they get 20 or 21 outs, and other nights when they only get 15 or 16... so, yeah, I agree... but that alone doesn't mean they'll be bad...

And yes Shack, the Os did know something...but you don't make him untouchable.
But he is a perfect example of a guy that many would trade for a marginal upgrade because he's "just a prospect". These guys carry a ton of value and they shouldn't be dealt for marginal upgrades and guys who don't really move the needle.

Given what anybody would have actually pad for him, the O's did the right thing...
You're just making a big deal about the word "untouchable"... to quote somebody, Semanticz... (which I think ought to be Semantix...)

We have no idea what anyone would have given them.

Rob. Britton isn't going anywhere. Let it go man.
Oh I know.
My point in mentioning it here is yet again, the Orioles have found a potentially excellent reliever almost by accident.
They continue to do a good job finding these guys. You don't need a 7M closer to have a good pen.

If Givens, O'Day, and Britton are all healthy, there's a good chance they pitch about 200 innings with a sub 2 ERA, which is of tremendous value, especially considering many of those innings would be high leverage.
