We arent in limbo in the sense that we are gonna be bad or have no chance but Im a firm believer that theyve plateaued under this manager and with group. Maybe they win 85 again next year. Maybe 88 and sneak in. Maybe only 80 though. Regardless, they arent making a championship push without changes

Basically what I was alluding to. They're in first round playoff purgatory. They're basically the MLB version of the Andy Dalton Bengals.
I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

I was at the game and obviously it was an incredible bummer, especially with Burns coming through like that.

Some takes:

I agree with 2035 and others about the wall, well mostly at least. I'm good with it being further back than it used to be, but they went too extreme with it. Also as talked about, we don't even benefit from this based on our roster, which makes it that much more frustrating. That Westy smash should have been an epic moment at the Yard!

I don't think lack of hustle cost the team at all as those guys got to the bases it would be reasonably expected for them to reach (maybe I'd change my view with replays). I also think it is fair to say they should have hustled more, but I think putting that on leadership is an odd take as what happened there is incredibly common.

I was tempted to think they should have walked Witt, but then that likely results in a steal due to the runner being on third, so you're putting an extra runner in scoring position with 2 outs, which I don't like. Tough call either way and it's not like Witt smashed the ball. The walk to the #9 hitter was the one blemish for Burnes today.

As stated, the lack of demand for tickets is incredibly disappointing to me; there were plenty of empty seats even with tickets being super cheap ($20 and under in many cases) on the secondary market. The fans that did show up were decent I thought and would have erupted if the team gave them reason to (or you know if Westy's shot was a homer like it would have been almost everywhere else). I think we collectively did get more and more anxious as the game progressed and the O's kept on failing to cash in opportunities or just hit a bomb. I don't know, maybe we should have been better?

I don't want my leadership comment from earlier or my general Hyde related comments from the past to be misconstrued: I am not some big Hyde guy and if they lose tomorrow, I'd welcome a change. I just think some of the Hyde stuff is very overblown on here (primarily one poster to be fair) and so much of the criticism is misdirected as many of the gripes are in fact more related to organizational decisions and philosophies (talking about criticism from the collective here, not just 2035).

Anyway, I'll be back tomorrow and this time in the Bird Bath, so I better get splashed a lot dammit!

It's their second time in the playoffs under this regime. And it isn't over yet.

Didn't you say you went to the games?

Nah. I mean he told me I was an incel in my "mama's basement," while he went to all the games in the world. I was just asking if he really went to the games. Seems like he should know this stuff if he did.

This team won 101 games last year and they aren't aging out of their prime or arbitrarily losing their skills. I think last year was a best case. This year regressed hard toward the mean. I still think they have a super high ceiling and I expect them to be good for a while. They're just very young. The insane number of injuries and Kimbrel's abject failure didn't help matters.

Some things need to change and I expect them to. Doesn't mean they're not a contender.

The Orioles' paid attendance for Game 1 was 41,506, slightly higher than either Houston (40,617) or Milwaukee (40,022). I didn't catch the figures for San Diego.

Pretty good, actually, for a Tuesday afternoon game played in less-than-ideal weather.

I think being disappointed in the size and enthusiasm of the crowd is a ridiculous thing to even mention at this point.

Like you stated, the attendance was good considering the factors that you pointed out.

Ragans took out the crowd with his performance anyway.

Win the must win game today.

KC manufactured one run, which was enough to win.

The weather was just fine. I'll easily take the under in terms of how many actually showed up.

9 playoff losses in a row dating back to 2014.

Yeah I was at the game. I'm a real fan unlike you.

2014 was a decade ago. Nobody on this team was on the 2014 team. Most were still in high school or college. Different manager. Different coaches. Please explain how anything from then is relevant to anything now, other than the uniform.

Also, any time someone tries to gatekeep fandom it makes me literally laugh out loud.

The fans.  It affects the fans, which indirectly affects the players.

Yes these are professionals but at the end of the day not playing hard falls on the manager. I don't see how anybody can support him anymore.

Lol, the fans pining over the 8 game playoff losing streak somehow affected the players yesterday?

That's quite the stretch.

Who wasn't playing hard yesterday?  They couldn't hit water if they fell out of the boat but I don't think it was because of a lack o effort.

The only thing I'll point out is that Jackson Holliday was either in elementary or middle school in 2014. He was likely more affected by pizza being served at lunch on the day the Orioles were swept in 2014 than the sweep. If they pressed yesterday, it has nothing to do with the playoff losing streak. They just played tight.
