Orioles need to start another little run....they'll eventually have to play with some pressure, but they are still the outsider right now....put some wins together and make people watch you.

You can't get satisfied in perspective.  Where Buck and Adam were more successful than any Leadership team in the last 25+ years of the Orioles is they focused on the next game.  Grind It Out (I think) was the theme one year...you earn it.

You aren't good because you have the best record since July 1...you're good because you Find A Way to win the next Game.  Every night.

Even when there wasn't a next game if you lost. :)

Red Sox are a game under .500 after beating the Pirates today. But still 3.5 behind the O’s.

The Twins and White Sox also both won - they are each a half game behind the O’s. The Guardians lost, but maintain a 1 game lead in the Central.

The Rays beat the Yankees again and have a game and a half over the O’s and hold that are tied for the 1st WC spot. With the Mariners who are currently leading the Angels in the 6th, 3-2.

Thanks to the O’s beating the Jays tonight, they’re just a half game behind them for both 3rd place in the East and the 3rd WC spot.

I’m ready to run through a brick wall for dude!

Actually, everything I write is that motivating, this one was just short enough for you to make it through without falling asleep.  Of course sleep is important so you may be screwed now.  My bad.

The White Sox come to town next week and are playing fairly well of late. Cease pitched last night, and should pitch again on Sunday against the Central leading Guardians so we are likely to miss him next week.

Cease has the 3rd lowest ERA in baseball and has 178 k’s in 133.2 innings. He shut the O’s down in late June: 7 IP, 1 ER, 13 K’s. He also has a weird mustache. But he’s a beast.

It might be time to start rooting for the Rays and Blue Jays against the Yankees. This might be a division race in September and the O's might be in it.

They’re playing great but I think that ship has sailed. 10+ games out at this point is a tall task. Without two other teams also in the race.

Agreed, that kind of deficit requires the teams(s) your chasing to collapse, while you catch fire.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

Anyone ever blown a lead that big?  What's the biggest?

I know it's a long shot but let's see where this stands by the end of the month. If the Yankees continue to falter and we end up 5 games behind them I think that's a division race in September even if we're battling the Rays and the Blue Jays as well. I don't think we lose either way when they're playing each other but the Yankees are opening up that door right now.

Angels were 10.5 up on the Mariners in '95 on August 17. RedSox had a huge lead in '11 too. Maybe not in the divison though

A 10.5 game deficit on August 17 is impossible unless the team you're chasing is starting to implode. We shall see.

I know the Mets blew a massive lead to the Phillies about 10 years ago or so

Looked it up -- 2007 they blew a 7 game lead with 14 to play.

The most famous collapse has to be the 1951 Dodgers, who had a 13.5 game lead on the Giants on August 11th.

The 1978 Red Sox had a 9 game lead on August 13, an 8.5 game lead on August 20, and a 7 game lead on August 30.  They were in second place on September 13.

The Yankees were up 15.5 games on 7/8. Even with this slide they’ve got a 9 game lead. Incredibly unlikely, but it would be an epic choke job.

Ever since Pedro mentioned his soul couldn’t handle it, they’ve started slipping a bit. The universe listens to Pedro.

I feel like asking to gain a game a week is about right. O’s would have to get red hot and be in second place in the division, Iike 5gb entering September to have a shot.
