It’s pretty much all he can do. He’s DJ Stewart at best in the OF and can catch the ball at first base but wasn’t going to displace Mountcastle.

Good comp, but I don't remember Mancini ever taking a fly ball off the noggin.

Also, the Orioles weren't going to keep Mancini (who's looking at FA after the season) over Mountcastle who has several years of control left.

Was thinking about Rutschman's All-Star candidacy (he's currently #1 in fWAR in the AL among rookies, only Julio Rodriguez is close) and likelihood of getting a full year of service despite not debuting until May 21.

He returned to game action from his injury (I won't put injury in quotes for the sake of not derailing the topic...) on 4/26.  He had most of ST before his injury, missing about 5 weeks total before returning to action. He rehabbed at Aberdeen and Bowie first and then made it to Norfolk on May 6th.  I think he could've gone straight to Baltimore at that point after having about 10 days of a rehab assignment, which even that feels long compared to most guys who miss only a month or so.

If the O's call him up at that point...are we any closer to holding a Wild Card spot?  Team went 6-8 between May 6 and May 21, so not terrible, but 4 of the losses were by 1 or 2 runs.  Chrinos/Benboom had 53 PA with a 500 OPS over that stretch.  More than Rutschman killing it for us during that stretch, I think he could have gotten through his struggle period sooner and then started raking by June 1 rather than sometime in mid-June, so maybe its a couple weeks later that the benefit of an earlier debut might have been noticed in a win/loss column.

Yankees fall to the Jays again. Their lead is down to 7 in the East now.

The division is definitely in play now. They are in a free fall.

Bad day so far. Jays won again, as noted above. Rays also won. O’s lost. Seattle game just underway. Cleveland vs. Chicago (AL) delayed. Same with the Minnesota vs. Texas tilt.

The Twins and Rangers are tied at 2 in the 9th. Jorge Lopez on the mound for the Twins at the moment.

The White Sox are leading the Guardians in the 6th 1-0.

Rangers beat the Twins in 10.

So the O’s lost a game to the Jays and Rays, but maintain their standing with the Mariners and Twins. If the White Sox hold on, they’ll be just a half game behind the O’s now.

We're falling too far behind to make it reasonable. We need to turn it around now before there are too many teams to catch.

Yep, I'm getting disheartened they won't gain ground playing .500 baseball. They need to string together a little streak, and hope the other teams stumble during those games.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

The White Sox/Guardians game was postponed.

Yankees got their first home run out of Benintend in the 7th inning, a 2-run shot which broke up a 2-2 tie and gave the Yankees a 4-2 win over the Jays.

Rays beat the Royals 3-2.

Rangers are leading the Twins 4-0 in the 8th.

Luis Castillo is on the mound today for the Mariners in Oakland - but he’s allowed 3 runs through 3, and they trail 3-1 in the 4th inning.

O’s got back in the win column tonight with a 5-3 win over the Red Sox.

They picked up a game on the Twins (now tied), Jays and Mariners today.

Another big series begins Tuesday against the White Sox at home. Then onto Houston this weekend, then Cleveland to begin next week.

Cease was supposed to pitch today for the White Sox against the Guardians, but it got rained out. Hopefully he’ll start tomorrow and miss us. He’s a total beast.
