Was thinking about Rutschman's All-Star candidacy (he's currently #1 in fWAR in the AL among rookies, only Julio Rodriguez is close) and likelihood of getting a full year of service despite not debuting until May 21.
He returned to game action from his injury (I won't put injury in quotes for the sake of not derailing the topic...) on 4/26. He had most of ST before his injury, missing about 5 weeks total before returning to action. He rehabbed at Aberdeen and Bowie first and then made it to Norfolk on May 6th. I think he could've gone straight to Baltimore at that point after having about 10 days of a rehab assignment, which even that feels long compared to most guys who miss only a month or so.
If the O's call him up at that point...are we any closer to holding a Wild Card spot? Team went 6-8 between May 6 and May 21, so not terrible, but 4 of the losses were by 1 or 2 runs. Chrinos/Benboom had 53 PA with a 500 OPS over that stretch. More than Rutschman killing it for us during that stretch, I think he could have gotten through his struggle period sooner and then started raking by June 1 rather than sometime in mid-June, so maybe its a couple weeks later that the benefit of an earlier debut might have been noticed in a win/loss column.
