It's interesting, but I don't agree with the larger premise. Of course the author says as much in his own conclusion.

If anyone is interested, today is the 28th anniversary of the 1994 players' strike which not only torpedoed the rest of the regular season, but the World Series as well. Other than the fans themselves, nobody got hosed worse by the strike than the Montreal Expos.

The Rangers have fired manager Chris Woodward after about two and a half years on the job. Ownership apparently didn't think a 51-63 record was good enough after a nearly $500 million free-agent spending spree this past offseason.
