Robert Gordon

Today’s edition of sports are crazy: It is August 29, 2022. Serena Williams won at the US Open and Albert Pujols hit a home run.

This also happened on August 29, 2001. Serena defeated Denisa Chládková in the second round of the Open and Pujols went yard off David Lundquist.

I thought they increased the base size this year to 18 inches? Did they not do it or is this just making it permanent?

I'm fine with a pitch clock from the minors stuff I've watched. I'm good with not as many batter time outs. Not sure about some pace of play stuff, e.g. am I right in reading you can only have two pick off attempts per PA? That seems crazy.

I am and will always be against banning the shift. Remove the shift by beating it...but I know momentum is against that view.

Is 6 playoff teams a thing til next CBA agreement or is that something they could increase any time?

Think it’s a CBA thing.

Bases are currently 15 inches but they’ve tried these rules at different levels of the minors so that may be what you’re remembering. Yeah will only be two pickoff attempts per batter. Pitch clock will be 15 seconds, 20 seconds if a runner is on base.

MLB informed the MLBPA that they are prepared to voluntarily recognize the minor league player's union. Not sure exactly what the "prepared" part means, but I'm a bit surprised, pleasantly. I thought that one was headed for the NLRB-sanctioned vote.
