If Henderson and Hays and Hall are all multiple All-Stars then the deal would certainly sting. Especially if Soto plateaus a bit and is only Carlos Delgado and not Miguel Cabrera.
But if the trade is just a fringe starting OF, a platoon 3B, and a good RP and Soto maintains his HOF trajectory, then you are thrilled to have made the deal.
The Miguel Cabrera trade always stands out in my mind. Plenty of people thought the Tigers were crazy, they gave up two top-10 prospects at the time. But Andrew Miller took a long time to become a shutdown reliever and Cameron Maybin has a long career but was just a fringe starting CF (his best year oddly was back in Detroit about a decade after the trade).
