The silver lining from this is that it's pretty certain that they'll revisit this rule once the Olympics conclude.

What a dumb rule.

They should revisit now and retroactively change it. There's no point in punishing someone for going against a dumb/unjust rule when we know it to be so.

I could put this here or the Olympic thread, but I decided for the track thread.

Salisbury Seagull Alum and arguably the greatest D3 track and field athlete ever (not hyperbole) has qualified for the Olympics  for the German National team!

Also wanted to mention, the 400 hurdles is probably the hardest event to compete in on the track with the possible exception of the 800 meters.

Norwegian's Karsten Warholm obliterated the World Record last night running the 400 hurdles in 45.94 seconds crushing the previous record.  American Rai Benjamin also blew past the old WR finishing in second in 46.17.   These times are absurdly fast, if you can run an open 400 at 46 flat you are flying, to do that while also jumping over 10 hurdles is off the charts!   Congrats to these two for raising the bar!

I saw this last night and wow, those dude were moving. Rai caught up to him, but Karsten had an unbelievable burst and slammed the door shut.

Karsten is the faster dude, but not sure, if he would have turned on that last burst, if nobody was near him.

Having someone to push you to the limit is a huge benefit in helping you go faster.  Warholm is 25 and Benjamin is just 24 so these guys haven't even hit their peak yet!

Competition continues to be a good thing for the 400 hurdlers.  Americans went 1-2 in the womens 400 hurdles with both breaking the previous WR.  Sydney McLaughlin won in a time of 51.46 while Dalilah Muhammad came in second in a time of 51.58!

Enjoyed watching track and field last night.

I think it'd be cool if there were some variations on the starting conditions for the sprints.  Like using the blocks and not using the blocks.  Maybe a jogging start where everyone paces together until they hit a starting line then it's sprint time.  Guess that would only work on the races that don't cover a turn, so just hurdles and shorter sprints.  But I'm curious about how it would change things for sprinters who are better starters versus ones that are better closers.

More highlights from the Track!  Ryan Crouser ( WR holder) set a new OR in the shotput last night on his first throw!  Fellow American Joe Kovacs came in Sedond.   Interesting tidbit, the podium for the shotput was exactly the same as it was in Rio in 2016.  This is the first time ever of a repeat podium finish in any event.

Allyson Felix has qualified for the 400 finals!

Matthew Centrowitz comes up short in the semifinals of the 1500 and won't be able to defend his gold medal.

The US men's 4x1 team screwed up a relay exchange yet again and won't even be in the Final.  The last time they medaled in this race

was '04.   This is pathetic, not winning is bad enough but to not even make the final is awful.  That would be like the USA men's basketball team being eliminated in group play.

Feel like US track is kind of sucking. Getting some wins for sure but seems like most of the favorites are coming up short.

23 total medals in track so far by USA, current next highest are Jamaica and Poland at 8.   Only 5 of those are gold yes, but I wouldn't say that they're sucking. There are alot of good runners and field athletes out there.  IMO the only disappointment so far has been the Mens 4x1 not making the finals, maybe Lyles finishing 3rd in the 200 can be included as well.

Polevault coverage was awful last night, they only showed a handful of jumps.
