With his tendency to give up the long ball I don't think it's a big deal if he is shut down for the remainder of the season. That wouldn't play well in the playoffs.

On top of that you really don't want a reliever whose weakness is the long ball.

Maybe his future is at the back end of the BP.

Back to back scoreless outings with 0 hits, 0 walks, and 1 K in each at Norfolk.
3 hits, 3 runs and a walk in his most recent outing from the 15th. His tank seems to be on E and I'm starting to think we won't see him again in Baltimore this year.

0.2, 2h, 1ER.
Guy is not gonna make it back up from AAA after being sent there in late July. This after being arguably our best SP in the first half. He just slams into walls at some point every season

iIt is a shame Wells wore down. He is really needed, but at this point, maybe they should shut him down.

He will absolutely be given every opportunity to lock down a rotation spot. He's definitely earned that. Like many young pitchers do when they exceed their normal workload, they tire and wear out. Maybe they can plan a little better on how to best optimize him next year. Maybe starting him as a tandem guy following an opener for a month or something that has him heading into the 2nd half with less innings than this year. Kid's a bulldog and a budding star IMO. He's got it. We shouldn't be sleeping on Tyler Wells just because he isn't here right now. Don't forget the contributions he made this year - at times when Gibson was struggling, when Kremer hadn't gotten it dialed in yet, when Irvin was demoted... Wells was one of those rocks for us. Always keeping us in games. Major contributor to 2023.

He's much more needed in the BP, especially if Felix is out long term.

I have almost zero desire to try Wells as a starter again. He's good right up until he's absolutely terrible. But then he doesn't seem to be able to rest up and recover. Once he's done he's done. Bullpen guy for me.

So long as they can rework his arsenal so that it plays in the pen, cuz his career 1.6 hr/9 rates out as 148th out of 161 qualified relievers in MLB this year.
