MLB Pipeline has him as the Orioles 19th rated prospect following the trade.

Actually this is good to see. On the Angels he was 7 or 8. On the Orioles he is 19. It points to how our farm system has progressed.

Balt Sun: Why the Orioles acquiring Jahmai Jones represents a new facet of their trade strategies
I hope Jones turns out to be an actual player who contributes to the Orioles sooner rather than later. It would be a nice addition
The most interesting thing in the article is that pitchers and catchers report Wednesday
I honestly lost track of that.

Think its time to get him up here and give him the 2b job for awhile. See what we have.
Certainly. He's been in the minors for 5 years. Give him a shot. Its not like he's some kid just out of high school.

What are they waiting for?
Probably still evaluating Wilkerson's future as the teams second basemen.

What are they waiting for?
Good question. If nothing else, throw the fans a bone.
I watched some of Norfolk game(s) last night and Jones and Diaz both had a couple of hits. Bring them up. Put Santander on the IL until he can play on 2 legs. DFA Stevie.

I'm concerned that it's a Super-2 manipulation, which I dislike fundamentally. I'm on board with gaming the system to gain extra control, but not just to save money. Especially not with a guy like Jones who isn't a top prospect with massive upside.
Season ends 10/3 so as of today (6/24) there are 102 days left in the season. Jones has 14 days of MLB service already from his two brief callups last season. Lowest cutoff ever was a couple years ago when it went down to 115 days, typically it's close to 130. So if we had a historically low cutoff again, and we called up Jones right now, he might reach the threshold.
If we wait a week or two, then there is little to no concern unless the cutoff shifts dramatically lower than the already dramatically lower low point that we've seen in the past.

Valaika and Wilkerson should certainly not be blocking anyone. Either could be DFAd and it would be fine.
I can accept service time manipulation because an extra year of control is huge. I can grit my teeth and accept super 2 manipulation for guys who are supposed to have a huge impact. I can't get behind super 2 manipulation for just your normal guys. Really hope the CBA changes so decisions like this are primarily baseball decisions.
