There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

Front Office Sports:
The trading card industry started off 2021 with a bang.
An extremely rare 1952 Mickey Mantle rookie card sold for a record-setting $5.2 million, it was announced Thursday.
Venture capitalist Rob Gough bought the Mantle, which was last sold by retired NFL lineman Evan Mathis in 2018 for $2.88 million.
This particular PSA 9 1952 Topps Mantle is one of six with an authenticity grade of 9 out of 10. The three “10” cards are reportedly in “strong hands.”
The trading card industry entered the year riding a monumental 2020:
- A 2009 Mike Trout rookie card sold for a then-record $3.94 million.
- A 1979 Wayne Gretzky rookie card sold for a hockey-record $1.29 million.
- A 2003 LeBron James rookie card sold for a basketball-record $1.8 million.
- That record was quickly erased when a Giannis Antetokounmpo rookie card sold for $1.86 million.
Sports cards have generated lots of buzz over the past year as investors work toward further legitimizing the asset class.
Gough told Forbes the Mantle deal was “a steal.”

Just sent about 30 cards to PSA. Did base service. Probably will see them sometime next fall.
Damn man. Good on you for having 30 cards worthy of doing it. What are some of the highlights?

Lot of Luis Robert. Some Witt 1st chromes. A few Dominguez paper. Encarnacion.
To be honest it’s probably wiser to grade these after the players pop since the grading cost doesn’t go up as much relative to the increased value in the cards but I have an itchy trigger finger

You're probably good. It's entirely possible Dominguez cards will never be more valuable than they are today. Same with Witt.

So I was a little tipsy last night and bid on an Acuna 1st Bowman Chrome. Right now it's at like $45 which is a steal.
However, I noticed the seller didn't include a picture of the back on the auction page.
I emailed him and asked him why and his response was "because I didn't"
I guess if I win and the thing is bad on the back I can take it up with ebay because the card was sold as "like new" but, man, that's shady.
At this point I hope I get out bid.

I love when guys put the "PSA 10?" In the headline (I've done it too) But then the pictures of the card look like it was taken by a two people. One holding the camera and the other holding the other part over his head that goes poof when the picture is taken.
We all have smart phones. They are damn good picture takers in natural light. C'mon people.

Picked up a couple Bowman packs, a MiLB heritage and an update pack at the card store
Nothing that'll pay for my kid's college but now have a Kyle Lewis Bowman rookie and a Lux Turkey Red and Bowman rookie so some nice guys to have in the collection
Also figured I should pick up some rookies for three of the biggest Orioles hits in my lifetime

I’m still trying to figure out the best way to photograph my cards. So many times my phone shows up in the reflection. Maybe I should take the pic outside of the top loader

Definitely out of the top loader. Unless it’s graded and under a slab of course, then who cares. The Witt pic I took earlier in the thread should be, IMO how it’s done. Dark background gives clear pic of the corners/edges which are white. Near a window with natural light not under light bulbs which give it a different tint.

Pic from eBay, not me, but here's how the Mountcastle rookies. Not a huge fan of where they put the gold cup card.
