It is SO DAMN hot outside. This is unbearable. I hate running as it is - but this just makes it so, so much worse.

I've resorted to attempting to run after the O's games end. When it's settled down to a nice 82 degrees.

Find a basketball court. Best cardio ever.

You mean other than walking 18 right?

So no, I will never stop making jokes about this!

As well you shouldn't.

That said, I do think you likely underestimate walking 18 holes as a quality exercise. You get done walking 18 on most courses and you're usually sore.

I'm not saying it's incredibly easy, but I've done my fair share of hiking and I've walked golf courses, generally they aren't going to really make me tired or sore except for the more challenging hikes.

You're. not just walking. You're using your big muscles when you're swinging 50-60 times as well.

If you sat there and took batting practice for 50-60 pitches you'll feel it. You go at the golf ball with a lot of aggression and force.

Ok. And I've hit a lot of golf balls in my life and I don't view it as much of an exercise. Exercise is the word you used and that's where the walking comes into play. It's possible to be a little sore from all the swings, but that's more because it's unnatural and utilizes some muscles that may not get used much, rather than because it's a workout.

You're not golfing right then.

You're using all your core muscles when you golf right. It's a good workout, if not cardio.

Which again, is why you're allowed to continually rib Rob.

Golfing kicks my fat ass up and down the fairway. (Well, the rough, really)

It's really not a good workout. Especially just the swinging part. It's better than nothing, but let's not get carried away here.

The average 18-hole golf course is 7,200 yards, or just over four miles. Walking that, plus swinging a club 80 times (or more, likely with this group :D) is pretty good. Especially when most people doing it would otherwise not be exercising.

I'm talking from experience. You getting sore from going to the driving range vs me not getting sore says a lot more about you than it does my swing.

While most amateurs are carrying a 20-25 pound bag on their shoulders.

The walking is great. It's not going to fatigue anyone in decent shape, but it's great for the average person. The swinging will likely make people sore who don't swing golf clubs regularly, but it's not what I'd consider a good exercise.

I didn't say the driving range. It's a combo of the swings and walking on the course.

I've golfed longer than you and I'm better than you. I was sore after walking 18 10 yrs ago in my early 20s and in the best shape of my life. And yes, I was in good shape. I had less than 6% body fat at one point.

Oh, do I long for those days.

Walking a golf course is very similar to hiking or backpacking. Walking 5 or so miles over varying elevations with ~20 pounds your back is quite the workout. Its almost exactly like a half day trek over moderate terrain (with more gear than you'd need for a half day).<br />
