After hr #16 last night, he is on pace for 58 homers.

Would 10 years and 450 million be enough?

I would do whatever it takes to sign Gunnar long term.  He is a very rare talent.

There is very little that Gunnar Henderson can not do on a baseball field.

That’s a massive overpay that would have the owners wondering what the hell Rubenstein is doing.

Witt is the comp, and he signed an 11 year, $288,777,777 deal this past February. That’s $26.25m/yr.

Giving Henderson 45m a year right now?

I mean, yeah, he’ll take it, or fire his agent if Boras were to decline it, but there’s no way it’d take that much.

Just do what it takes. He’s a future Hall of Famer.

I think he's more likely to win a Cy Young award than to sign an extension before free agency. But it's fun to think about!

Yes, it would.

I agree it would, sort of.  Once you are going there, it doesn't take much to get to 500M.  That's what Boras is going to want.  Every contract is an opportunity to push the new edge.  Getting Gunnar at 17/510 sets up a new standard for Soto.  Or whoever goes first, or whatever.

Although, Soto reportedly turned down 500M offer (heavily deferred?) so I guess the answer could still be no.

I have a hard time using Witt's contract as a comp, because he signed with a start up agency that his father partially owns. I have to believe that made him inclined to sign for less, than if he was represented by anyone else.

Even if Witt paid zero commission to his dad and Gunnar pays 10% to Boras (it isn’t that much) you only get to like 11/321M.

It's a hard time using a comp, because Scott Boras isn't looking for a comp.

Gunnar's 6 fWAR at this point in the season is the highest since Bonds in 2002. Super impressive.

He's basically A-Rod, but the run environment is worse, it's nuts.

Little HR Derby trivia. Only 2 ss have won in the history of the event. Both were O's. Ripken and Tejada. LFG Gunnar let's make it 3!!

Nope.

Disappointing performance. I think nerves got him.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

I dislike the Derby (and frankly the whole ASG) as I wish guys were resting and taking a mental break from baseball for the second half push. But if you are going to do it then give it your best shot. Not a very good performance last night. Maybe he'll go off tonight and win ASG MVP.
