SFA was listless the entire game except for Jordan Toles who spent an entire half trying to get his teammates into the game. That effort paid off in the 3rd quarter when Ace Baldwin started hitting every shot he took and Jamal West started abusing MSJ freshman, Antonio Hamlin. MSJ coach Pat Clatchey had taken out his centers and put Hamlin on West. It was a terrible coaching decision that gave the MIAA championship to the Panthers. Next up is the BCL playoffs next week.

Might be the dumbest coaching decision I can remember. How tall is Hamlin, 6’2? West is like 6’6 and long. Idiot move.

Hamlin more than held his own offensively but on the defensive end not so much. MSJ’s two big men offered nothing at all, either. MSJ SF Wesley Chairs was also a huge liability against West. He just wasn’t athletic enough to even sneeze at West.

Believe it or not, GA, Nick Myles has shown a lot of improvement with his X’s and O’s. SFA runs better offense than in years past. It doesn’t hurt that he has his big three of Baldwin, Toles and West. All three are extremely athletic AND intelligent basketball players.

CHC 15 Loyola 15 End of 1Q
Loyola 33 CHC 23 at the half
A mediocre Loyola team benefitted from a 16-6 foul differential and ran the pitiful Cardinals out of the gym in the 2nd quarter to take a 18 pt lead.

Damn good games
Yep, the SFA - DeMatha matchup looks like the best on Day 1. Definitely some opportunities to get a quality win for the BCL teams, however recent history at the Alhambra has not been kind to the Baltimore schools.

Also helps this one of less talented teams MSJ has fielded in some years.

Recent history, ancient history, and pre-historic, Baltimore privates have struggled at the Alhambra. Only one Baltimore team has won the tournament in 36 years ('96 SFA). Only 7 Baltimore privates have played in the final over the last 36 years. The WCAC holds a 48-18 record over the Baltimore privates over that 36 year period. Calvert Hall won in '82, the only other Baltimore private to win in 56 years, since Towson Catholic won in '62, the second year of the tournament.

I’m pulling for Goretti, Walsh and SFA. I have no dog in the fight in that final game of the day.Alhambra matchups set.

And? All programs go through the ebbs and flows of talent disbursement. Calvert Hall is the perfect example of this phenomenon this season. MSJ has the BCL POY, an All-BCL 2nd teamer, Brelsford and a damn good freshman in Hamlin.. Nobody feels sorry for Clatchey and MSJ.
Also helps this one of less talented teams MSJ has fielded in some years.

I wasn’t going to bite but you’ve lost your mind. The college recruiters don’t agree. Does Blakeney even have an offer yet? Not that he isn’t deserving of a mid to high-major offer. I’m glad Goretti won though. Didn’t want a fourth SFA-MSJ matchup.
SFA beat Loyola by 21. St Maria Goretti 64 Mt St Joe 54. RJ Blakney is better than James Bishop

Blakeney is related to you? It’s baffling that he hasn’t gotten any offers, though. What do you attribute this to?
Bishop is more hyped but Blakney is better. Blakney outplays him every time they are on the court together. He is a better all around player and a better team player.

Seems like Glenelg Country School beat Gilman for the Maryland Independent Schools Tournament. If McDonogh had beaten GCS in the previous game, the Eagles would have beaten your Greyhounds in the championship too. What a terrible year for a team with such promise!IMO SFA, MSJ, McDonogh and Glenelg Country will all be better than Gilman this year. I get that Gilman football sucks but don’t overcompensate and think that Gilman will win the MIAA. It ain’t happening.
