I was gonna say, what’s command? Watch Jacob deGrom

I enjoy watching great pitchers and I have only seen deGrom a few times on TV.  He is special.  If he could stay healthy, he would be on the way to Cooperstown.  He had no hit stuff yesterday.  I was happy to see Mountcastle break it up.

I always thought control meant the ability to control the location of the pitch. Which apparently isn't control at all. Ok then I think its all hooey. I only care about command then.

I mean do we care if a guy can throw every pitch in his arsenal straight down the middle 90% of the time? Might never walk a batter. Might not get very many guys out either.....lol......

Depends on the pitcher and their role. Bautista is control > command but with his stuff and one inning role it works. DL Hall basically only needs control to be at least a five and dive starter similar to Blake Snell.

Was thinking about Bautista earlier and this goes for a lot of short inning RPs. Bautista lacks command but as long as he keeps the ball in the strikezone he will be good over short outings.

Again, why the moving Hall to the pen for good should happen. Let him max out for an inning or two. But to keep it real he probably still needs a bit better control to be an effective back end RP

Grayson with 2-strike counts vs OAK: .429/.556/.429 (38.4% of his total pitches)

Grayson with 2-strike counts vs TEX: .231/.286/.308 (33.7% of his total pitches)

I kept looking up at the screen that gives the pitch and the velocity and it felt like he was not trusting the fastball in a 2 strike count.  It is 97 with hop, throw it more with 2 strikes.

Not really seeing it yet with him, but I don't see how you send him down. He has nothing left to prove in the minors.

Until he absolutely show you he's not ready yet, you keep him up here at the expense of one of the other guys who isn't a long-term plan SP.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

His FB is A+, he just needs to get better command of the strike zone, which should come with more time.   I say keep him up and let him learn.

Nothing left for him to learn dominating AAA hitters.

Also thought the pretty modest pitch count increase from 83 to 99 was interesting, highly doubt he goes closer to 99 than 83 going forward

Because he was recalled before the first 20 days of the season were up Rodriguez’s AAA time counts as major league service and therefor he is eligible for the bonus RoY draft pick.

Interesting.  I knew he'd get the full year if he stayed down less than 20 days (an option has to last more than that or its not burnt and you get all the service), but didn't know MLB also counts that as on the Opening Day roster as far as the new rule perks go.

Makes sense.

That game last night was really weird. Terrible in locating his pitches and threw way too dang many of them. BUT he found enough to get guys out. I guess its kind of good news. If he can do that with no command how is he going to do when he figures that out!!!
