I was really hoping to see Baumann in spring training.  I saw him in Frederick.  Physically he reminded me of Chris Tillman.  His delivery then seemed a little long, but he threw hard.

I think this is one of the more interesting parts of the analytics that are being done.  Because we have detailed data on pitches, they look at the profile of the best pitchers and guys work to develop those same pitch characteristics.  I'd guess there's still some stuff that you can't replicate (or understand how to replicate) but it creates a target and like Baumann is saying, allows to you work to something specific.

“It’s nice to have those things to look at it,” he said. “It’s instant feedback and it gives you a purpose to get better that specific day. Gives you something to strive for and gives you a developmental goal and what you need to work on. It was good."

(on an unrelated, related side note, Project 300 reference)

Hopefully he has a better idea where the pitch is going. :)

Early on I would agree, but he was a good pitcher from 2012 to 2016.  If we got 5 years from Baumann like Tilman gave us, I would be happy.

If Baumann can produce a 115 ERA+, that would be great.

Tillman produced results but it was smoke and mirrors.  I remember reading an analysis of Tillman by some guy and he was talking about how Tillman was "moving the ball up and down in the zone"....I'd guess the guy never watched him pitch and was just looking at the pitch chart.  That wasn't intentional, it was a lack of command.  He struggled to throw to the mitt.  He really did.

One of the next levels of development should be intent.  The catcher's mitt needs a sensor that marks the intent (location) of the pitch and you can do vertical and horizontal location based on result.

If that was around for Tillman, I'd guess he'd be close to last on qualified guys.

Not hating on Chris, he did really well for several years and put some nice money away.  Good for him.  If Baumann could produce those results, it would be good, but I think it's really hard to be good without command.  I hope he has more command than Chris.

I hope it is nothing serious.  It would really suck to get an injury in an squad game.

Baumann is the young pitcher that I am anxious to see.  When you hear other Oriole prospects interviewed, many seem to bring up Baumann.  I hope we see him, mid point this year.

Baumann isn't exactly young for a prospect, but given the unusual circumstances over the last year you can't really hold that against him.

Would love to see him on the mound sooner than later.
