Austin Hays is having a strong spring for the Orioles- hitting to all fields again, and several XBH. Should we toss out 2018 because of the injuries and jump back on his 2017 hype train?

Don't toss 2018 out entirely, but consider weighting it less than you would for most players. He was a back-end top 100 guy after 2017, and i think if you project average regular for him you'll be in a good spot.

Mike Elias also, pretty interestingly, that he "would really love to have [Austin Hays] be a fixture in center field for us" Said he has bat for right, but has speed and athleticism for center. Just not experienced there yet. #Orioles

Hays is coming off a forgettable 2018, struggling in the early goings before missing time with an ankle injury. He slashed .273/.291/.535 upon returning to Bowie in early August, showing lots of power but the same over-aggressive approach versus spin that has been his Achilles heel in years past. It was curious that the O’s even sent him to Double-A at all, as Hays finished the 2017 season in the big league lineup. We see Hays as a well-rounded player who doesn’t have any gaping holes, even if no one tool is a true plus. He’s a high-floor prospect with a good chance to finish an everyday corner outfielder.

Back to back nights 2-4 with a homerun. Probably getting close to returning to AAA or at least bumping up the rehab stint to AA.

Nice to see.  I think the CF job is his by August, if he does well.

Good.  Hope he gets back on track and hits well there.  He can move up to Norfolk quickly if he does.  I'd like to see him have 2 months or more of total minor league success this season, though, so I wouldn't be looking to promote him to Baltimore until close to August even if he's doing quite well between now and then.
