Isn't he rated fairly average defensively?

I guess the arm hurt him, but Mullins can cover ground in CF.

Deserved.

Now someone figure out why Mountcastle isn't in the final 3 for RoY.

Because there were at least 3 rookies more worthy.

There were like 5 or 6 that were deserving. Nobody head and shoulders above the rest. Awards are overrated. Not meaningless just overrated.

Defense and positional adjustments seem to be the obvious reason here.  I'm more surprised that Garcia didn't make the final 3 either.

He finished 9th in the MVP voting. Apparently it's the first top-10 finish for a player from a 100-loss team in 70 years.

Interesting.  I think it speaks to what a great year Mullins had.

I do think the terrible season and reputation the Orioles have, hurt Mountcastle but it looks like the numbers Mullins turned in got noticed more.

Leadoff hitter and CF’er, so offensively, the bar is just set lower.

Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but dang.  This story really shows you the character of Mullins and makes it even easier to root for him.

@DillonTAtkinson

Cedric Mullins in 2021:
.291/.360/.518, 136 wRC+

Cedric Mullins in 2022, through his second at-bat today:
.257/.333/.467, 137 wRC+

That wRC+ should tell you everything you need to know regarding major league hitters so far this year.

Cedric deserves some love for the glove work recently.

Despite the pea shooter arm and despite the avg bat this year the glove and speed are impacting in a big way. He's a keeper. you put Hays and maybe Stowers next to him in the OF and let those guys cover a lot of ground for the next few years.
