Trout has hit for the cycle if you add up each of his first AB's in his four all star appearances.

Sick.

Mike Trout should be Pedro's favorite since he never swings at the first pitch. :D

I missed the pre-game stuff. So Pete Rose got honored but Bonds isn't one of the best living players?

Bonds was in the Giants "Franchise Four"..Rose was in the Reds one..The only difference was that they did the Reds live on the field. Same "honor" so to speak.

The 4 greatest living players thing was Koufax, Mays, Aaron, and Bench.

They did the "franchise four" for every team -- basically the four best living players and then they did the four best living players in MLB history -- Aaron, Mays, Koufax and Bench.

Obviously this is extremely subjective but Bench being there is sort of a joke.  If they wanted to give Cincy someone to cheer for they could have at least picked Frank Robinson or Joe Morgan, both of whom were better than Bench IMO.

Literally could name 30 living players better than Bench.

The steroid black balling continues to be a joke.

Not sure what this means but I always love a good zing. :-)

I do dislike the fact that Hardy often takes the first pitch and then swings at a ball.

Thanks guys. Absurd list. Koufax is every bit of a poor choice as Bench imo.

At least you can point to Koufax's brief period of utter dominance as some sort of justification.  The Bench thing is just mind boggling because, again, if you wanted to please the folks in Cincinnati for something that, let's face it, is mostly for the fans, at least pick a better living Red.

I think you can argue that Bench is the best living Red. It's pretty close off the top of my head.

I think it's close. Bench is arguably the best catcher in MLB history. That should carry a lot of weight.

His counting stats aren't great compared to Frank, but the positional difference is immense, both in terms of durability/longevity and offensive effectiveness.

You're gonna love this but doesn't WAR account for the position played? Frank and Morgan (who also played a non-offensive position) have him beat pretty handily.

But in any event. I think it's a disservice to a bunch of guys to put him in the same breath as, say, Willie Mays.

Frank fits in better with the sort of age requirement thing they had too.

Four greatest living players?

Mays, Bonds, Clemens, Aaron.

Yes, WAR does account for position. However, catchers just don't play as many games each year and generally fall off at a much younger age than do other position players. Counting stats just aren't fair to catchers when comparing to other positions unless there's a significant adjustment made.

I have a bigger issue with Koufax than Bench. One of the most overrated players ever imo.
