Sources: #Ravens OT Orlando Brown wants to be traded. After tweeting his desire to only play left tackle – he filled in there for Ronnie Stanley and shined this season – Brown will only play for a team that will play him at his preferred spot. Baltimore would need a major haul.

On Orlando Brown: The #Ravens have Ronnie Stanley coming back at LT, but they value Orlando Brown significantly. Would need major compensation to deal him. But with the focus so intensely on QBs, the guys who protect them are just as valuable.

Too bad. You've got one year left on your deal. Kinda pissed off he's pulling this crap this year. Next year when we would be putting a tag on him Id understand. If we get the appropriate compensation trade him. If not, play out the contract.

I 100% feel him here. Get your money as soon as you can. Let the Ravens maximize his return, and let Brown get his huge payday. No hard feelings either way.

The price for him should be pretty damn high.

Multiple high draft picks need to be coming back.

Wow, that relationship soured quickly.  Trade him to the Jets.

Kinda bummed about this, but it’s about as good a buy-low/sell-high opportunity you’ll see.

I mean there really isn't any pressure on EDC. Brown is on his rookie deal. Not sure why they're doing this heading into year 4. If the compensation is right EDC will move him. If its not Brown will play out his deal at RT. Or sit our but he aint doing that 4 years into a career.

I also wonder if there is some distinction here in the agent asking for permission to engage other teams surrounding trade interest vs "requesting" a trade.

Some of it is semantic, but Brown, as 2035 points out, just has zero leverage in this situation. So it doesn't really matter...

I don't think the relationship soured.  It is just the business of sports.

If we get the haul, I think we should, it may work out well for both sides.  If not he will stay and play.

Agreed.  I am actually excited to see what DeCosta can do in this situation.  DeCosta is the professional poker player going up against a bunch of drunken sailors.   He should be able to maximize the return.  Too bad Bill O'Brien is already out of the league.

I'm with Antoine, no hard feelings for Brown wanting to play LT and get paid as such.

I'm a little bummed he wants out, as my preferred option was to let him play 2021 then tag him and trade him then.  Could still do that, but I do have some worries about the level of production you'd get from Orlando if he's disgruntled. Trading him not is the 2nd best outcome, IMO, and still should be a good thing for the Ravens.  A first and more seems very realistic.  I'd then aggressively pursue trades for other established vets using our new draft capital.

Have the Ravens ever traded a good player?

I mean actually traded and not "got something small back in lieu of cutting" like we did with Boldin and Ngata.  Hurst I guess.

This will be interesting if nothing else.

Yeah, Im in the keep your mouth shut camp when you're 3 years into your career. After your rookie deal is up you can start chirping.

Btw I like and respect Baby Zeus's play on the field but Id be leery being the one to give him his big deal.

So they trade him if the price is right.

He plays well, but, disgruntled and doesn't sign an extension and is highly sought after as a FA.

He plays poorly because he is disgruntled, Ravens can bench him and he is worth even less on the FA market.

Whatever the Ravens have to do. Sucks that he wants to pull this card when he doesn't have leverage.

Question his mindset. He could play one more year on a Super Bowl contender at right tackle. Or he could get traded to the Jags, or Jets, or some sorry place just to play left tackle for the same money before testing the market.

Field the trade offers. Make a team blow you away. Trade or not, address the position in the draft as if he won't be here.

Seems like he pretty obviously has leverage.  I also think it's the right move for him.  He clearly wants to play LT.  And financially, it's always smart to get paid as soon as you can.  So he'll be happier and he'll have more money.

If you're simply the villain any time you ask to be traded, then I guess he's a bad guy.  But I strongly disagree with that take on things.  If he refuses to play if he's not traded or outwardly sulks to the point it impacts his performance on the field, I'll have an issue with that.  But asking to be traded in and of itself is totally fine.

Only way you don't move him at this point is if you are lowballed... and with multiple teams having interest, that won't happen. They'll find an offer they like.

If he’s traded the team taking him on doesn’t have to extend him. They likely would depending on what they give the Ravens in return. But for now he’s making the same amount he’d make here until his new team says otherwise. He doesn’t get to pick who we trade him to. That’s a no leverage situation.

His only leverage is a hold out. It maybe lowers his asking price in trade since teams would assume the Ravens don’t want to have him sitting at home when they could get something for him. But if you aren’t putting anything on tape in 2021, your 2022 market value goes down.
