I don't believe that, though I don't think it's bad for baseball, either.Well... that sucks... but this is great for baseball.
At least now I can root for the Netherlands, uncontested.

You don't think young folk in Puerto Rico out the DR are even more inspired to play baseball now?I don't believe that, though I don't think it's bad for baseball, either.

Why? Those are two baseball-mad areas that are already heavily scouted by the major leagues. Really, I don't think ANY of the four remaining nations fall under that umbrella; maybe the Netherlands, but most of their players are from the Caribbean. You don't think young folk in Puerto Rico out the DR are even more inspired to play baseball now?
If Italy made a longer run, or Australia, or Brazil, I could see making that argument. But even if the remaining nations are excited by the tournament, more so than the US, the number of kids deciding to play baseball as a result is going to be minimal.

Right, just like the .4-percent interest in my savings account provides me some income. It can be measured in pennies a month, but still. But it's definitely a net positive = good for baseball.

Won't be another game like it this year there!Grand scheme of things - this game didn't need to go extra innings. Still hoping the USA can muster a come back here.
The atmosphere at that park tonight is just ridic.

We're not a power in soccer and probably never will be. At least not in our lifetimes.
Our hockey team is usually top 3 in the world.
We've established dominance in basketball.
However, the national baseball team in the WBC has been a disappointment. Our best finish was 4th place and our overall record in the tournament is 10-10.
Seeing how much the WC meant to the country and the players, I'd like to see that same kind of dedication put into the WBC, meaning we get the best players playing in the tournament.
America is where baseball was started. We should be the best.
What say you?
