Warriors add Thompson to Love talks

The Golden State Warriors have greatly increased their chances of acquiring All-Star forward Kevin Love by making sharpshooting swingman Klay Thompson available to the Minnesota Timberwolves in trade talks, according to sources close to the situation.

Sources told ESPN.com that Golden State, after initially resisting Minnesota's desire to land Thompson in a Love deal, has relented and is now willing to package Steph Curry's trusted backcourt mate along with David Lee and a first-round pick in a trade for Love that could materialize quickly with the 2014 NBA draft looming Thursday.

....Golden State would also receive Kevin Martin from Minnesota in addition to Love.

If they can get anything of value for Josh Smith, pull the trigger.

@GoodmanESPN: Knicks send Chandler, Felton to Dallas for Calderon, Larkin, Dalembert, Ellington and No. 34 and 51, sources told ESPN. Deal is done.

Dallas can actually be a player in free agency with Dirk taking a big pay cut. So this is a move that is kind of eh by itself, but if they make a big upgrade or two elsewhere, they can be a legit contender.

The Mavericks certainly missed Chandler and weren't the same after he left. It will all come down to who they can lure to join them this summer. And while I was never a Jose Calderon fan, any additions need to include a PG, as Fat Ray Felton is definitely not the answer.

Its so crazy that teams are doing whatever they can just for cap space so they can make a run at the big FAs.

What this all does is, it really hurts the average players.  Guys that are just decent that used to get absurd deals (Lewis, Rashard; Houston, Allan, etc) aren't going to be able to realize that same thing going forward -- teams SHOULD be much more careful with what they use their cap space on.

Arron Afflalo returning to Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets have acquired guard Arron Afflalo from the Orlando Magic for guard Evan Fournier and the 56th pick in Thursday night's NBA draft, sources told ESPN.com.

Nice addition for Denver. For Orlando it's pretty much a salary/roster dump that allows them to move Oladipo to his more natural 2-guard position.

But thats all you can get for Afflalo?  That seems to really be selling low.

Afflolo likely would have become a free agent next summer, and it sounds like Orlando was shopping him as hard as they could. They probably just didn't see the point in paying him $7.5 million and stunting Oladipo's development at the 2 for another season, and were willing to take pennies on the dollar.

They may have been  better served holding onto him until the big FAs signed somewhere.

Perhaps. Or maybe they have something big in mind with one or both of their picks tonight? With this move, they have lots of cap space and some very promising (and very cheap) young players.

Also, Orlando still has a potentially valuable trade chip in Jameer Nelson. He's due to make $8 million this next season, but if he is waived by July 15 only $2 million of that is guaranteed, so some team looking to clear cap space might be willing to send Orlando some nice assets.
