Feels like Boston’s Winter of Waffling could be a factor in the delayed mega deal. Getting under the threshold seemed like a mandate at times, only a goal at other times. Feels like there’s been inner conflict all along, and trade blowback caused conflict to resurface. #Mookie

Ya hate to see it

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

"Now OPS sucks.  Got it."

"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."

"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

The Red Sox and Dodgers will probably still fulfill their part of the trade. But what will likely be needed is another third team or additional players in what is now a two-team mix.

Red Sox end up getting a better deal. Verdugo, Jeter Downs, and Connor Wong.

I just don’t get why the Red Sox didn’t get the most possible for Betts and then deal Price in a separate deal.

Price as 3/48 would be attractive to teams imo. You may not get a lot for him but you could certainly have moved him, while also getting more for Betts.

Since the whole point (despite all of the "he's DEFINITELY leaving" stuff) was the salary relief, they likely didn't want to risk not being able to pull off a deal. Then you've lost Betts and didn't even achieve your primary goal.

This was about Friedman trying to pull a fast one over on his protege, Chaim Bloom. Except Bloom didn't blink.

What are you talking about?

The prospect the Red Sox balked at for medical reasons came from the Twins.

And the Dodgers got an even better deal the second time.

Of course. However, it doesn't take five days for a Red Sox doctor to read the MRI results of a MLB pitcher. Boston let it be known this guy aint going to cut it, and what's really going on there is this was Chaim Bloom talking to Andrew Friedman (by way of the Twins' GM, Thad Levine).

The real deal here was Betts and Price for acceptable parts coming back. The Twins were cover for Friedman to not have to spend from at or near the top of the deck of Dodgers' prospects.

That's why it took so long. And Friedman blinked.

Not so sure, they had to give up Jeter Downs, who is a good prospect.

That's why the reports of them not liking the medicals came out almost right away.  It took the remainder of the time to work out the details of how they were going to keep the trade together while replacing one of the key players going to Boston.   Dodgers sent different prospects to Boston and instead they get the Comp B pick and Graterol.

Matter of opinion on whether Downs and Wong are better or worse than Graterol (and the pick).  MLB ranks Graterol as #53 and Downs as #87.  Wong is barely inside the Dodgers top-30 so he doesn't seem like somebody widely valued.

Chris Sale having an MRI on his elbow today.   With that delivery, it is amazing he does not have problems every year.

Very cheap major league deal. Surprised we didn’t make a run at him.
