In Detroit, Max Scherzer just balked in Aviles as the Red Sox grab a 6-5 lead after being down 4-0 after 1 inning.

Max promptly serves up a single to Ellsbury which plates Shoppach and gives Boston a 7-5 lead, and Leyland has seen enough as he heads toward the mound to make the call to the bullpen.

Carroll strikes out, bounces in-front of Wieters who makes the play.

Twins 4th ends, as Mauer grounds out to Andino.

Now 18 scoreless innings for the O's starters.

Not sure what I think of that Detroit team. Plenty of power obviously.

I think they'll run away with the Central personally. They're pitching still doesn't play for a deep run in October, but you never know. I like Verlander and Fister at the top, but to be true contenders Porcello will have to take that next step, which he is still more than capable of doing, IMHO.

Burroughs make an over the shoulder, sliding catch in foul-territory on Betemit.

Heading to the 5th, 1-0.

Hammel walks Morneau to start the 5th. Hate seeing that.

Helping his cause, Hammel fields his position on a Willingham grounder, as the O's turn 2.

Davis flies out to RF. Andino draws a walk. Back to the top of the order.

Really good AB by Dino there, making Swarzak throw 5 pitches and drawing a walk. We had been bailing him out by swinging away and making quick outs the past couple of innings. The reliever/spot starter is up to 74 pitches. I'd imagine his batters are limited at this point.

Hughes grounds out to Betemit. Hammel's 2 seamer proving very effective today.
