How come people use fwar isntead of BBwar? What's the difference between the two?

I just look at fangraphs out of habit. The difference is how they evaluate defense.
That's not the only difference.

The primary difference is rWar (i.e. BBref War) uses DRS for defense and fWar (Fangraphs version) uses UZR for defense for position players. For pitchers the primary difference is that it rWar uses an ERA basis (adjusted) and fWar uses a FIP basis. It's my belief that DRS is a superior metric to UZR and is especially better than UZR for outfielders, so I generally go with rWAR.

Rough moment here. Trey Mancini slams his right knee into the wall while sliding for a ball along the left field stands. He was immediately in pain. He's walking off on his own power, but he's being replaced by Gentry.

OPS up to .705.
(.753 vs. RHP)
.844 OPS in August.

Mancini's been DH'ing the past few games. I wonder if that's just to let other play the outfield right now or a portent of things to come.

I think it's because Trumbo's hurt.

He ties Manny for the team lead in homers, with 24.

Some of these things seemed pretty evident at the time (i.e., rolling over on GB's and not driving balls to the opposite field etc). The part about trying to be more patient and taking too many patient causing poor outcomes is interesting, if not somewhat ironic. Hopefully we'll have better and more more proactive coaching, aided by analytics, in the near future.

9 for his first 20, 2 hr's, 1 double, 5 rbi. Nice grab in RF Monday night.

Certainly deserving. I think he'd probably be just on the outside of making the team if there were no 1-rep requirement, but he'd have a decent argument for inclusion even without that caveat. #7 in OPS among AL OF. He'd be #1 at 1B or #4 at DH.
