This is my personal opinion on Dylan and the use of his cutter being limited. There will be some that agree and others, well not so much...

Yeah not really sure what to make of it myself. Like they are trying to force him to use the 2S instead of the cutter...why not let him do what he is comfortable with and what works?
Just a little curious myself.

I just hope they do not continue to limit any pitches as a professional. Variety keeps hitters honest, keeps hitter thinking, helps the pitcher stay one step ahead of the crowd. I think any one pitch outside of the fastball is not something I suggest for long term health, but using all of your pitches in small doses should not take away from his arm strength.

I'm not an ESPN insider but I see Goldstein is saying the Orioles should call up Bundy now.
I agree, they should. You are trying to win now, and Bundy can help.

The pen is in good shape.

Assuming he has about 35 innings left, you could use him either way. 5-6 starts? Another power, strike throwing arm out of the pen?

I don't want him up personally...at least not yet.Assuming he has about 35 innings left, you could use him either way. 5-6 starts? Another power, strike throwing arm out of the pen?
He has to do well in AA right now first.

Let him excel in AA and you can THINK about it in the spring, I don't think he's ready yet.

My thought is that he does not have to be a finished product to help. He just has to be ready to contribute better than one of the 12 existing arms.

As a teenager in his first professional season, I don't think he will. I would MUCH rather see Arrieta in the pen if you want a power arm back there.
I won't judge til I see him next weekend, but I hear he's still got some work to do.

He can likely be better than Gregg. But so could BMat, Britton and Arrieta. My thought is that he does not have to be a finished product to help. He just has to be ready to contribute better than one of the 12 existing arms.
I just don't see it. Plus, the pen is pitching very well right now.

He will be up for good by the end of May next year. There is not going to be a major difference in what he is right now, vs. what he is then.
Either way, he won't be a finished product. He is going to do most of his growing and maturing in the majors as time goes on.
However, right now you are trying to contend. On pure stuff, he's obviously one of the 12 best right now.
For the record, I'd be adding Matusz and Arrieta as well.
Ahh well, just my thoughts. I think the O's have / are considering it, but I tend to think he will not be brought up. (At-least not until September, and if he does come up, I expect it will be out of the pen only.)

Little known is that they no longer really allow him to throw the 2S with a grip that sinks, which he had in his back pocket as well. His current grip rides more lateral and can sit 6-8 mph off the top shelf 4S. I know that partially, it is the development of the CH, which has improved.

Wow, I just learned so much from reading that article. Thanks for writing it, and thanks to allstar for posting it.

It just seems like this is a situation of egos.
DD and RP have big egos and a my way or the highway attitude.
Bundy came into the draft saying don't draft me if you don't like long toss.
His father obviously believes his methods are right.
Just have to hope this doesn't hurt the relationship long term.
