There's simply no strategic advantage in firing him now. Of course, given the way the Chargers seemed to lay down last night, Staley virtually guaranteed he'd have some time to catch up on his Christmas shopping.

The Raiders fired their coach mid-season and put up 63 points last night. :)

I think a Pop Warner team could have hung 60 on the Chargers last night.

Welp add another AFC legit contender to the mix. Insane conference strength right now.

According to Aaron Wilson, Harbaugh's offensive coordinator in L.A. will be Greg Roman, a guy who views receivers the way most people view a wart on the tip of their nose. If this is true, Justin Herbert must be doing cartwheels.

Harbaugh is a great coach and I think Roman is underrated. May take a few years to figure some things out but I expect LA to be in the mix soon enough

I figured Belichick was a good fit in SD..er LAC. But Harbaugh's got some pedigree too.

Herbert is indeed doing cartwheels.

I can't see Harbaugh hiring Roman as his offensive coordinator, though. Maybe run-game coordinator or some such title for an old buddy who still wants/needs a job. But Justin Herbert doesn't fit Roman's offensive theorems.

Los Angeles might not have been the most glamorous job available, but it was probably the best fit for Harbaugh, particularly since he doesn't have to worry about finding a quarterback.

Why assume the QB needs to adjust to the coach? Roman has a few years of Herbert on video. Why think he couldn't meld what he's got going for him?

I'm kind of a little more interested in the Chargers now.  Harbaugh got shafted at San Fran, and he's won everywhere he's gone.  He's got a quarterback, if the GM can figure out the cap situation and he can field a team in 2024, I have no doubt he'll have the team humming in 2025.  I always wondered how Herbert would look if he had a competent HC.  He's got that now.

I've heard stories that little bro Harbaugh's a little neurotic with his competitiveness, and I think that's an area where John has tempered himself a bit, to the point where he's managed to become somewhat of a player's coach (while still having high expectations for conditioning etc.)  Maybe Jim could use the same lesson, but if he figures that out...

Seems like a good hire.  Time will tell if they can finally compete with the Chiefs in the West.

If Roman does join Jim at SD as OC, I can see Kaepernick being brought in as backup QB just because he knows Roman's system.

If they want a backup familiar with Roman, pro bowl QB Tyler Huntley will be a FA.

How is Roman a good fit for Herbert with his antiquated route trees? Likely a death knell for Quentin Johnston, too. Worst case scenario for him.

Make use of that 4.68 40 time! 700+ rushing yards for Herbert next year.

Jim Harbaugh may be a total ass like the rest of his family, but he isn't stupid, and certainly not football stupid.  Roman is a good coach with a QB like Jackson who is a duel threat.  Herbert is not that.  Harbaugh will be hiring someone else.

There has been some talk that they might hire him as QB coach.  Of course, that was likely Florio trying to stir things up.
