Interesting....I thought the B1G was going to a 9-game conference schedule in 2016. If so, that means the Terps would have to drop one of their 4 scheduled OOC games that year. Wonder which? I guess Howard would be the easiest to drop, but that would mean the B1G would have to make sure the Terps get 5 home conference games that year to have 6 total home games. But then, they also have 2 road OOC games in 2017 already scheduled, and I doubt they would get 5 home conference games 2 years in a row. I wonder if someone else is getting dropped, like UCF? (as that would solve issues for both 2016 and 2017)

Rumors are that the Big Ten FCS scheduling ban will start in 2016, meaning the Terps would have to cut Howard from the 2016 schedule.

I guess then they will have to either drop another game or try and do some rescheduling with UCF, because I'm sure the Big Ten isn't going to give them 5 conference home games in back-to-back seasons. And I'm pretty sure they can't afford to have a season where they play only 5 total "home" games.

Not directly football related, but still a reason Terps fans should be excited about 2014 and beyond.

Big Ten's Revenue Keeps Climbing

The league's fiscal year doesn't end until June 30, but according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Stu Durando, conference payouts to member schools should reach another record high this year. Figures provided by Illinois show that Big Ten distributions are expected to be $25.7 million per school, including $7.6 million from the Big Ten Network.

Is this normal?  To release a schedule over a year in advance?

The Big Ten seems to like getting scheduling out of the way early. The Big Ten ADs were all in their spring meetings, so scheduling was a natural topic of discussion. The 2015 schedule could be coming out soon as well.

If I were a betting man, I'd say the Ohio State game will be played at M&T to replace the game that was supposed to be vs VA Tech. Michigan State might be a possibility too.

Ohio State is already playing Navy in Week 1 at M&T. No way they do that twice.

Why not? Wouldn't really see the difference as far as they are concerned.

To play in Baltimore twice in several weeks? Seems like a stretch.  Wouldn't think MD would be in-favor of it either. Would be harder to sell tickets hyping Ohio State, when they played there the month before.

For local fans with no big rooting interest maybe, but regionally I think UM has a different fan base than Navy. I don't know what the contract terms are with M&T, but I would guess that UM is committed to buy a certain number of tickets for the game, so I think they want as attractive opponent as possible to be sure they can re-sell them all. I'm not sure if the option of moving the game to 2015 is available, but if so there would be PSU and Michigan then.

It's their first conference home game in the B1G.  I think they'll want to keep it at home.

But holy crap, what a schedule.  I think if you gave me 2 wins from that right now I'd probably take it.

If they do want to have OSU at Byrd (which makes plenty of sense) I suppose they could only sell single-game tickets for that game as a package with the M&T game. I just don't see Iowa and Rutgers selling at all, and not very much more for Mich St.

Does anyone think they'll play Ohio State at RFK or Fed Ex or M&T Bank? Like when Navy hosts Notre Dame, they don't play at the small stadium at the Naval Academy.

It's mentioned in the other thread, but they are contractually tied-in to play at M&T in 2014 (originally was supposed to be VA Tech). With OSU being the only attractive game on the schedule, and UM likely being required to sell a pre-determined number of tickets, they may have to do that....even though I'm sure they would want to play their first ever Big Ten home game on-campus.

They could always just play WVU at M&T again.

True. WVU won't necessarily be a huge draw for UM fans, but they'll bring enough fans of their own to make up the difference. Although I imagine that all involved will want to see how this year's game vs WVU sells first, before deciding on a second year in Baltimore.
