You weren't the only one not able to watch most of it.

The 26 year old, right handed pitcher, Andrew Cashner was once the #1 prospect in the Cubs system back in 2010. He was traded to the Padres prior to last season, in exchange for Anthony Rizzo.

Cashner made his MLB Debut in 2010 for the Cubs, and worked out of the bullpen to a 4.80 ERA. In 2011, he only pitched in 7 games at the big league level, again, out of the bullpen.

In his first season with the Padres, Cashner spent nearly the whole season with the big league club, and again worked out of the bullpen to a 4.27 ERA. This season, he made the club out of spring training for the first time, and started in the pen. He recently transitioned to a starting role, and will make his 5th start of the season this evening.

He has a 7.04 K/9 and a 4.40 BB/9, this to go along with his 3.23 ERA (3.86/4.29 FIP/xFIP).

One other semi-related note about Cashner... I recently read on Baseball-Prospectus that there is a strong correlation with FB velocity > 93 MPH and the most effective change-ups. I noticed with Cashner, his FB is 95.0 MPH (Probably more like 94 now that he's starting and not in the pen exclusively), and he throws a change up that's 9.1 MPH slower than his fastball, 23.3% of the time. It'll be interesting to see if we see this correlation today.

Man, Nick is standing much more closed-stance and much more upright....more power-hitter stance.

I don't like send Manny with Markakis up vs. a pitcher with a 4.00+ BB/9. Too aggressive there.
